Month of April started with a surprise hit ” Chashme Baddoor ” . For the first time in the history of Indian cinema two films ; the original ” Chashme Buddoor ” and the new ” Chashme Baddoor ” got simultaneous theatrical release and the new version became hit and got appreciation from the critics and public alike .

P. B.Sreenivas  :

A Legendary playback singer P. B. Sreenivas a.k.a. PBS died on April 14, 2013 in Chennai . He made his début in 1952 in Gemini’s Hindi film “ Mr Sampat ”, where his song “Aji hum Bharat ki naari”, a duet with Geeta Dutt, became popular.

He sang his most popular duet in Hindi “Chanda Se Hoga Wo Pyaara” with Lata Mangeshkar in the film “ Main Bhi Ladki Hoon ” in 1964 . Years later , after a gap of 37 years , he again came to Hindi film and sang super-hit number ” Kaisi Hai Ye Rut Ki Jisme Phool Banke Dil Khile ” in ” Dil Chahta Hai ” [ 2001 ] .

Though PBS had hit numbers in all the languages that he sang, it was in the Kannada Film Industry that he sang the highest number of songs and delivered the highest number of hits. P. B. Sreenivas ruled the Kannada Industry for over three decades and was the voice for Super Star Dr. Rajkumar .

Vidur’s Telly Tales – 9 : Bigg Boss Connection [ B ]

Bigg Boss – Season 6 started on October 07, 2012 on Colors . When Bigg Boss – Season 5 started , I immediately posted my first blog about my Bigg Boss connection on October 04, 2011 . I have mentioned in that blog that barring Season – 5 , which has only one student Mahek Chahal , all the other seasons had two students of mine as participants . Here is the list , which I had posted at that time :

I thought , isn’t it uncanny ? Isn’t it something special ? Isn’t it unique ? Bigg Boss is hugely popular . It is eagerly awaited . All the participants become household name . And here I can say with utmost satisfaction that I have 2 students per episode . In total 12 students in 6 seasons .

Any Acting Trainer would wish that his students should be in the house . Every Acting Trainer of Mumbai and all the Acting Trainers of India dream for this kind of publicity , which is rare . Some Acting Trainers of Mumbai even make false claims . Luckily ,  as an Acting Trainer of  Bollywood , I got this on platter .

Among all the Famous Acting Classes in Mumbai or reputed Film Institutes of Mumbai , my institute Vidur’s Kreating Charakters is fortunate enough to have such a track record .

A wannabe Acting Trainer of India and few unscrupulous , shady Bollywood Acting Trainers have greeted me with cuss words on the facebook . They sent me message on the facebook so that no one else could read it . This only shows their utmost frustration . Famous Acting Class can’t be run by frustrated people . It is like meditation . You have to slog . You have to work tirelessly , relentlessly and without showing fatigue .

But anyway , it is time to rejoice . It is time to sit down and take stock of the situation . It is very satisfying moment , a humbling experience . I thank almighty for giving me such opportunities and honour .

I am thankful to all my students for making me proud .

Vidur’s Telly Tales – 7 : Bigg Boss Connection [ A ]

On October 02 , 2011 , when I was watching the 5th season of  ” Bigg Boss ” , I realized that the show has become enormously big and has now totally metamorphosed into a very important show of Indian telivision.

When it started in November 03 , 2006 , it was not so big indeed. But slowly it grew and now it is one of the most eagerly awaited shows of Indian television.

This reality TV programme follows the ” Bigg Brother “ format of the Netherlands , developed by Endemol. It is a highly popular reality TV show in many countries of the world.

In India it is known as ” Bigg Boss “ and as I have stated earlier , it was started in November 2006.

Bigg Boss Season – 1

The first season started on November 03 , 2006 and it ended on January 26 , 2007. Duration of the show was 86 days and Mr. Arshad Warsi was the host of the show and it was aired on Sony Entertainment Television. There were 15 participants and their names are : Rahul Roy , Carol Gracias , Ravi Kissen , Rakhi Sawant , Amit Sadh , Roopali Ganguli , Baba Sehgal , Ragini Shetty , Deepak Tijori , Anupama Verma , Aryan Vaid , Kashmira Shah , Deepak Parashar , Bobby Darling and Salil Ankola .

Rahul Roy was the winner and Carol Gracias was the runner – up .

In this season there were 2 participants , who are my students . They are ; Amit Sadh and Ragini Shetty.

A much awaited Season  2 of ” Bigg Boss “ started on August 17 , 2008 and it ended on November 22 , 2008 . It lasted for 98 days and it’s host was Ms. Shilpa Shetty. There was one difference ; in stead of Sony Entertainment Television , this time it came on Colors TV . This season , like the first one , also had 15 participants and their names are : Ahsaan Qureshi , Alina Wadiwala , Ashutosh Kaushik , Debojit Saha , Diana Hayden , Jade Goody , Ketki Dave , Monica Bedi , Payal Rohatgi , Rahul Mahajan , Raja Choudhary , Rakhi Vijan , Sambhavana Seth , Sanjay Nirupam and Zulfi Syed .

Ashutosh Kaushik was the winner and Raja Choudhary was the runner – up .

In this season there were 2 participants , who are my students . They are ; Monica Bedi and Zulfi Syed .

Bigg Boss Season 3 became really big. Some well known personalities as participants and Mr. Amitabh Bachchan as host made it a one of the biggest reality game show in the television history of  India. It started on October 04 , 2009 and ended on December 26 , 2009. Like it’s 1st season , it lasted for 84 days and like the second season it came on Colors TV. The well – known celebrities , who participated in this season , were :  Vindu Dara Singh , Poonam Dhillon , Ismail Darbar , Sherlyn Chopra , Kamal Rashid Khan , Bakhtiyaar M. Irani , Tanaaz B. Irani , Aditi Govitrikar , Jaya Sawant , Shamita Shetty , Claudia Ciesla , Rohit Verma , Raju Shrivastav , Vinod Kambli and Pravesh Rana .

Vindu Dara Singh was the winner and Pravesh Rana was the runner – up .

In this season too there were 2 participants , who are my students ; Aditi Govitrikar and Shamita Shetty .

This eagerly awaited season of ” Bigg Boss “ came in 2010. It started on October 03 , 2010 and it ended on January 08 , 2011 . It lasted for 96 days . It came on Colors like season 2 and 3 and Mr. Salman Khan was the host. Unlike other 3 seasons , this season had 16 participants .

Names of the participants were ; Aanchal Kumar , Abbas Kazmi , Ashmit Patel , Begum ( Ali Saleem ) , Devender ( Bunty ) , Dolly Bindra , Hrishant Goswami , Khali , Manoj Tiwari , Rahul Bhatt , Sakshi Pradhan , Sameer Soni , Sara Khan , Seema Parihar, Shweta Tiwari and Veen Malik .

Shweta Tiwari was the winner and Khali was the runner – up .

Like earlier season , in this season too , there were 2 participants , who are my students . They are ; Ashmit Patel and Sameer Soni .

Bigg Boss Season – 5

This 5th season started on Colors on October 02 , 2011 and it will end on January 07 , 2012 . This time there are two hosts ; Mr. Salman Khan and Mr. Sanjay Dutt . Contrary to earlier seasons , this season will have 12 ladies , 1 transgender and only 1 man , Shakti Kapoor.

The names of the 14 participants are ; Shakti Kapoor , Pooja Bedi , Shonali Nagrani , Nihita Biswas , Shraddha Sharma , Mandeep Bevli , Raageshwari , Vida Samadzai , Mahek Chahal , Sonika Kaliraman , Pooja Misrra , Gulabo Sapera , Laxmi Narayan Tripathi and Juhi Parmar .

Names of the winner and runner – up will be known in January .

Unlike earlier seasons , this season has only one student of mine and the name is ; Mahak Chahal .

When I was watching Season 5 , I realized that every season of ” Bigg Boss ” till the 4th season had 2 students per season . Total number of my students in ” Bigg Boss ” comes to 9 .

This is the 28th edition of my film diary.

Priyanka Chopra has become a singer and her debut album was released by Universal Music Group and Desi Hits.

” Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge “ entered 825th week of uninterrupted run in the first week of August.

After some box office duds , Salman Khan starrer ” Boduguard “ took the nation by storm. It is now the biggest first day grosser of all times as for as Hindi films are concerned .

Shammi Kapoor : On August 14 , 2011 , with the death of Shammi Kapoor , not only an artiste was dead , but an era ended. This glorious era started in 1953 with ” Jeevan Jyoti ” , a film which he signed first but ” Rail Ka Dibba  “ was released first in the same year. This era will soon be part of history with the release of ” Rockstar “ in 2011 .

I am just mentioning about Shammi ji here . I will soon write a separate blog on him and his 58 year long career.

Shanti Das :  Well known art director Shanti Das died in Mumbai on August 14 , 2011 . He had worked with Shammi Kapoor in many films and its an uncanny coincidence that he died on the same day .

In his 40 year long career he worked in 200 films with stalwarts like ; Raj Kapoor , Bimal Roy , Hrishikesh Mukherjee and Subodh Mukherjee . Shammi Kapoor’s ” Junglee “ was his first big hit . He won many Filmfare award for his films and he got Dada Sahab Phalke Award also in 2000.

Samir Chanda : Another eminent art director Samir Chanda died on August 18 , 2011 in Mumbai. He was only 54 at the time of his death. He began his career with Subhash Ghai’s ” Ram Lakhan “ and continued till “ Black & White ” . His other works were ” Raavan ” , ” Rang De  Basanti “ and ” Delhi 6 ” . It is sad that a promising life ended at such a young age .

Shandar Amrohi : The elder son of film – maker Kamal Amrohi and step son of legendary Meena Kumari died in Goa on August 21 , 2011 at the age of 68.

Shandar Amrohi worked as an actor in ” Razia Sultan “ , a film directed by his father Kamal Amrohi . Though his acting career was short – lived. At the time of his death he was in Goa shooting a music vedio in memory of his stepmother Meena Kumari .

Barkha Roy was penning his biography ” Nowhere To Somewhere ” , which is now complete .
