” Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani “ got released in the last week of May 2013 and it took the nation by storm . It was , though , expected to do good business at the box office but success of this gigantic proportion was not expected .

It collected 62.11 crore in the opening weekend itself . It went on to collect 100 crore in the first week of its release and now it is the 2nd fastest 100 crore earner till date . Its overseas weekend collection stands at 22.10 crore . It is Ranbir Kapoor‘s biggest opener in overseas . It is the biggest opener of 2013 till date .

It is the 3rd biggest all-time grosser in the history of Hindi cinema .

Top 3 grossers in India: #3Idiots – 202 cr, #EkThaTiger – 199 cr, #YehJawaaniHaiDeewani – 155.28 cr [still counting].

Because of the humongous success of ” Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani “ , Ranbir Kapoor has become the biggest star in overseas after 3 Khans ; Shah Rukh Khan , Salman Khan and Aamir Khan .

I have every reason to celebrate this success . My name appears in the titles of the film .  I am billed as Diction Coach . My elder son Abhinav Chaturvedi’s name is also there in the credits .

I spent almost a month in Manali with the unit . Ranbir Kapoor is my old student . During this period I worked extensively with Kalki Koechlin and briefly with some others stars .

It has become the norm for acting trainers to revel in fake successes . Revellers beg their friends to promote their film on social networking sites so that they get more shows . And in spite of the limited shows , they brag about its so-called stupendous success . If a film collecting a paltry 50 Lakh is cause to revel for revellers , then I should be ecstatic  because ” Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani “ is the 3rd highest grosser of all time . At the time of writing of this blog it has garnered 155.28 crore and it is still going strong .

January is always known as the month of awards in the film industry . After Screen Awards and Filmfare Awards , it was the turn of Stardust Awards , the third most important and famous film award of the industry.

Sony – Max Stardust Awards were announced on January 26 , 2013 . As I have stated in my two earlier blogs , this year my 3 students got the Screen Awards and 2 got Filmfare Awards . My Association With Animation Films of India

Hollywood has long tradition of successful animation films . In India it is the recent phenomenon . ” Roadside Romeo ” [ 2008 ] , ” Arjun – The Warrior Prince ” [ 2009 ] and ” Delhi Safari ” [ 2012 ] are the most successful and well – known animation films of India . But they are new compared to the 100 years old Indian Cinema .

” Roadside Romeo “ was produced by Yash Raj Films & Walt Disney Company .  ” Arjun – The Warrior Prince “ was made by UTV & Disney . ” Delhi Safari “ was a film by Nikil Advani .

Though , in India , animation films are latest phenomenon , but it all started in 1974 . ” Ek Anek Aur Ekta ” [ 1974 ] is considered to be the first animation film of India . But the first 3D animation film of India and till date the most talked about animation film is ” Roadside Romeo ” [ 2008 ] .

” Roadside Romeo “ , technically most perfect animation film of India till date , was produced by Yash Raj Films and was written & Directed by Jugal Hansraj . Voice for the lead characters were given by Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor . Saif and Kareena are my old students . Jugal , who was trained by me for Yash Raj Films ” Mohabbatein ” [ 2000 ] , made his directorial debut with this film .

Through ” Roadside Romeo ” , I made my contribution in the world of Indian animation films also . It is so heartening .

  • The Adventures of Tenali Raman:The Adventures of Tenali Raman (26 X 11 min) is India’s first animated 2D television series by Toonz Animation India.
  • Little Krishna: 13 episodes 3D animated series produced for global audience by BIG Animation (I) Pvt. Ltd. and The Indian Heritage Foundation in both languages Hindi and English. Aired on Nickelodeon on May 2009.
  • Chhota Bheem:Super hit series on Pogo ‘Chhota Bheem’ produced by Green Gold(co-production with Turner International). It started as a 13-episode TV series, and based on the popularity it got extended and till date more than 60 episodes were delivered and work is underway on more episodes.
  • Krishna Balram: 26 stories, of 22 minutes duration each, follow through the capers of Krishna, Balram and Radha. Once again by Green Gold Animation. This series aired on Cartoon Network.
  • Shaktimaan Animated: It is the animated version of the hugely successful Shaktimaan series of the 1990s. The animated series is aired on SONIC.

Box Office Blues – December 2012

This is the 3rd blog in this category .

Only 7 Hindi films got released in December , 2012 . Winter chill in the north , public outcry and support for the unfortunate rape victim of Delhi and finally new year celebrations took its toll on box office and December 2012 had frosty effect on the box office collections .

” Khiladi 786 ” and ” Dabangg 2 “ were only exceptions . These two films garnered nice collections and in the final reckoning ” Dabangg 2 “ became the winner .

I am particularly pleased with the success of ” Dabangg 2 “ because it is produced and directed by my student Arbaaz Khan . Its costume designer Alvira Khan Agnihotri is also my student .

First Week – December 07

1 – Khiladi 786 : This new film from the famous ” Khiladi “ franchise of Akshay Kumar earned 62 crores world – wide . It was made with the budget of 30 crores , so it almost earned double its investment . Thus it became the first hit of December 2012 .

This film was directed by Ashish R. Mohan . It is the 8th installment in the franchise after ” Khiladi ” [ 1992 ] . Other Khiladi films are ; ” Main Khiladi Tu Anadi ” [ 1994 ] , ” Sabse Bada Khiladi ” [ 1995 ] , ” Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi ” [ 1996 ] , ” Mr. & Mrs . Khiladi ” [ 1997 ] , ” International Khiladi ” [ 1999 ] and ” Khiladi 420 ” [ 2000 ] .

2 – 10 ML Love : This forgettable film directed by Sharat Kataria , has Tara Sharma as one of the female protagonists . She is daughter of Late Pradeep Sharma and a dear and old student of mine .

This film is a liberal adaptation of Shakespeare’s play ” A Midsummer Night’s Dream ” .

Second Week – December 14

1 – Cigarette Ki Tarah : This romantic thriller has Prashant Narayanan as one of the protagonists . This film was directed by Akashaditya Lama .

2 – Myoho : A dud of December . Myoho means Mystic Law . It was directed by Ranjan Shandilya .

3 – Four Two Ka One : A disappointing film of Jimmy Sheirgill . He is my student . I trained him for Aditya Chopra directed ” Mohabbatein ” [ 2000 ] of Yash Raj Films .

Third Week – December 21

1 – Dabangg 2 : It is the biggest hit of December 2012 . It is the sequel of  its earlier avatar ” Dabangg ” . Arbaaz Khan made his debut as a director with this film . This is the 5th consecutive 100 crore earner of Salman Khan . Film’s budget was 40 crore . Thus according to trade analysts it is a block – buster .

Nikitin Dhir played the antagonist and Alvira Khan Agnihotri is the costume designer of this film . Arbaaz , Alvira and Nikitan are my students . I am so happy for them .

This film also has Kareena Kapoor and Flora Saini in guest appearances . They both are my students . Thus ” Dabangg 2 “ has 5 students of mine . One super – hit and 5 students . It is heartening .

Fourth Week  – December 28

1 – Hansa : A small film from the stable of Manav Kaul , a known theatre personality .

Out of these ……….05 ……… persons , Alvira Khan Agnihotri is the costume designer of  ” Dabangg 2 ” and Arbaaz Khan , apart from being an actor is also the producer & director of ” Dabangg 2 ” . Remaining ……… 03 ……. are actors .

Kareena Kapoor and Flora Saini made guest appearances in ” Dabangg 2 ” . They are my students too .

I am happy for ” Dabangg 2 ” and all the 7 students of my acting school Vidur’s Kreating Charakters .

May they achieve greater success in 2013 .

Box Office Blues – November 2012

Second blog in this category [ Box Office Blues ] is delayed by 4 days . I promised to write it on the last day of every month . But November was too hectic . I was in the process of starting Batch No. 69 of my Acting Institute in Mumbai and thus I missed the dateline .

Anyhow I am posting it today .

First Week – November 02

1 –Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana : This film has Kunal Kapoor in the main lead and it also had Anangsha Biswas in a small role . Both my students were appreciated in this modest hit .

2 – 1920 Evil Returns : This famous franchisee of Vikram Bhatt was a major hit .

3 – Ata Pata Laapata : This film by Rajpal Yadav was a major disaster and was a damp squib at the box office .

4 – Le Gaya Saddam : This film was unmitigable disaster . I will always  be a bit special for me because Chirag Patil , a very old student of mine , played a major role in the film . Chirag is incidentally cricketer Sandip Patil’s son .

5 – Future To Bright Hai Ji : Future of this film was definitely not bright at the box office . It tanked without trace .

Second Week – November 09

1 – Its Rocking Dard – E – Disco : Aryeman Ramsay is also my student . He made his debut opposite Amitabh Bachchan in ” Family ” . This flop film will be known for the music director Bappi Lahiri , who made his acting debut .

Third Week – November 16 [ 13 Deepawali ]

1 – Jab Tak Hai Jaan : This directorial venture of Yash Chopra will always be remembered as his last swan – song . It has Shah Rukh Khan in the main lead . It has Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma as the two female protagonists . Both are my students , though Anushka does not acknowledge .

It has one more student of mine . His name is Aashish Singh . He is the Executive Producer of the film .

This film is a huge hit . It has garnered more than 117 crore till now . Apart from ” Ek Tha Tiger “ , this is the second Yash Raj Films to garner more than 100 crore this year .

2 – Son Of Sardaar : This Ajay Devgn starrer clashed with the above mentioned film .  Tanisha Mukerjii , again a very old student , was associated with this film as the Executive producer .

Jeetu Verma , another old student , played an important role in it .

This film also entered in the 100 crore club , collecting more than 101 crore at the box office .

Fourth Week  – November 23

1 – Operation Mumbai : …………………………………………………. This Kunal Kapoor starrer failed at the box office .

Fifth Week – November 30

1 – Talaash : This Aamir Khan starrer was a much – awaited film . Apart from Aamir Khan and Rani Mukherjee , it also has Kareena Kapoor . She was my student before she signed ” Refugee ” .

2 – Jeet Lengey Jahaan : It failed to win anything and tanked without trace .

Times Celebex : India’s 1st Celebrity Rating Index [ 1 ]

On this Sunday evening , while going through bunch of news papers , which I subscribe , I found an interesting write-up in Bombay Times of Times Of India . It was about ” TIMES CELEBEX ” . This is first ever ranking index of Hindi film stars . Since it is done by Times of India and is powered by Zoom , it has to be quite authentic .

In Hindi film industry , or in any film industry of the world in general , fortunes change every Friday , when the new films hit the screen in theatres . So fixing the rating and ranking is not an easy task . But since it is done by Times of India and as per their claim it is ” most definitive and scientific ranking system ……….. robust ranking system based on data collected from 200+ publications and 250+ TV channels ……………” , one has to believe and take note of this list .

The 100 Crore Club of Hindi Films

All the Acting Trainers of Mumbai want successful students . Its natural . Some Acting Trainers of India even make false claims about their student actors to show the world that they are very successful . Its deceit . Almost all Bollywood Acting Trainers have lists of their students , who are now very much successful in Hindi film industry . Some are genuine , some are fake .

In fact all the Film Institutes of Mumbai dish out list of their students , whose films are there in the 100 Crore Club . In olden days Silver Jubilee , Golden Jubilee and Diamond Jubilee used to be the hallmark of a successful films . But now 100 Crore earning films are considered successful .

Till date only 15 films have earned 100 Crore or more . I am reproducing the list of films of all the 15 films of 100 Crore Club from Wikipedia .

Out of these 13 students , Kareena Kapoor tops the list with 4 films . She is followed by Priyanka Chopra with 3 films . Rest 11 have 1 film each in their kitty. Out of these 13 students , 12 are actors and 1 Sajid Khan is the director of ” Housefull 2 ” .

Kareena Kapoor was the first to enter in this illustrious club and Ranbir Kapoor is the latest . Both are my student and they both belong to Kapoor family , the first family of Hindi Film industry .

As an Acting Trainer of Bollywood , who runs a Famous Acting Class in Mumbai , known as Vidur’s Kreating Charakters , it is a very satisfying journey indeed .

Any Acting Trainer of India can do anything to have such a list .

Throughout September , ” Ek Tha Tiger ” kept on raking money , though the fury was subsided . The film is almost nearing the lifetime collection of ” 3 Idiots ” .
Month of September , apart from ” Ek Tha Tiger ” ,  gave us 2 superhit films . ” Raaz 2 “ was first hit of the month . And ” Barfi “ was a critical and commercial success . 3 super hits in a row and in a month is such a good thing for crisis ridden Hindi film industry .
Tweets of Mr. Taran Adarsh and Mr. Komal Nahta , which I re-tweet , shows the current trends of the industry .

An iconic figure in the world of Hindi stage , Dinesh Thakur , died on September 20, 2012 at the age of 65 .

During his 40 year-long career , he acted in films like ; ” Mere Apne ” [ 1971 ] , ” Anubhav ” [ 1971 ] , ” Rajnigandha ” [ 1974 ] , ” Kalicharan ” [ 1976 ] , ” Karm ” [ 1977 ] , ” Ghar ” [ 1978 ] , ” Meera ” [ 1979 ] , ” Griha Pravesh ” [ 1979 ] , ” The Burning Train ” [ 1980 ] , ” Aaj Ki Awaz ” [ 1984 ] and “  Fiza ” [ 2000 ] .

He starred in TV serials like ; ” Shanti ” [ 1994 ] and ” Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi ” [ 2000 ] .

But his main work was in the field of Hindi theatre . He established his theatre group ” Ank ” in 1976 and produced & directed plays like ; ” Hai Mera Dil ” , ” Azar Ka Khwab ” , ” Tughlaq ” , ” Baqi Itihas ” , ” Pagla Ghoda ” , ” Suno Janmejaya ” , ” Jaat Hi Poochho Sadhu Ki ” , ” Khamosh ! Adalat Jaari Hai ” , Kamla ” , ” Adhe Adhure ” , ” Rakt-Beej ” , ” Mahabhoj ” and ” Jin Lahore Nai Dekhya ” .

He won Filmfare Best Story Award for ” Ghar “ in 1979 .

 An ace cameraman of films like ; ” Hip Hip Hurray ” [ 1984 ] , ” Damul ” [ 1985 ] , ” Dacait ” [ 1987 ] , ” Pestonjee ” [ 1988 ] , ” Ghayal ” [ 1990 ] , ” Ghatak ” [ 1996 ]  , ” Zubeidaa ” [ 2001 ] , ” Bose , The Forgotten Hero ” [ 2005 ] , and ” Welcome To Sajjanpur ” [ 2008 ] , Rajen Kothari died of cardiac arrest on September 27 , 2012 .

He was 60 at the time of his death . His son Pratik Kothari is my student .

M. S. Shinde , an editor , who edited immortal classic ” Sholay ” [ 1975 ] , died in penury on September 28, 2012 at the age of 83 .

Apart from ” Sholay ” [ 1975 ] , he edited more than 100 hit films like ; ” Brahmchari ” [ 1968 ] , ” Seeta Aur Geeta ” [ 1972 ] , ” Sagar ” [ 1985 ] and ” Ram Jaane ” [ 1995 ] .

It is very sad that he had to spend his last days in PMGP colony Dharavi and had to face financial troubles .
