Month of March 2013 will be remembered for the average run of films . In the beginning of the month only ” Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster Returns ” got favourable response from the critics and the public . ” Mere Dad Ki Maruti ” and ” Jolly LLB “ had slow starts but picked up miraculously with positive word of mouth . ” Himmatwala “ came towards the end of the month and bombed miserably .

The first quarter of 2013 can boast of only 7 hits and average hit films . They are : ” Jolly LLB ” , ” Special 26 ” , ” ABCD ( Any Body Can Dance ) ” , ” Kai Po Che ” , ” Mere Dad Ki Maruti ” , ” Table No. 21 ” and ” Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster Returns ” .

A veteran actor of mythological films and some social films , Shri B. M. Vyas died on March 11 , 2013 at the age of 93 .

Famous for his portrayal of Ravan in several mythological films , Vyas started his career with Chetan Anand’s ” Neecha Nagar “ but was noticed with Raj Kapoor’s ” Barsaat “  in 1949 . He acted in over 300 mythological and social films including films like ” Baiju Bawra ” , ” Do Aankhen Barah Haath “ and ” Sarawasti Chandra ” . His last big film was Shah Rukh Khan starrer ” Oh Darling Yeh Hai India ” .

Self-proclaimed most famous acting school of Mumbai , self-annointed most famous acting institute of India and self-appointed most famous acting academy of bollywood will fail miserably on this count .

2012 gave us only 10 super hits and some major flops . ” Ek Tha Tiger ” , ” Dabangg 2 ” , ” Rowdy Rathore ” , ” Agneepath ” , Jab Tak Hai Jaan ” , ” Barfi ” , ” Housefull 2 ” , ” Son Of Sardar ” , ” Bol Bachchan ” and ” Talash “ were declared hits . ” Talash “ could not make it to the 100 crore club . Box Office Blues – November 2012

MUMBAI – MAHARASHTRA – INDIA           DECEMBER 04 , 2012           11.40 P.M.

Second blog in this category [ Box Office Blues ] is delayed by 4 days . I promised to write it on the last day of every month . But November was too hectic . I was in the process of starting Batch No. 69 of my Acting Institute in Mumbai and thus I missed the dateline .

Anyhow I am posting it today .

First Week – November 02

1 –Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana : This film has Kunal Kapoor in the main lead and it also had Anangsha Biswas in a small role . Both my students were appreciated in this modest hit .

2 – 1920 Evil Returns : This famous franchisee of Vikram Bhatt was a major hit .

3 – Ata Pata Laapata : This film by Rajpal Yadav was a major disaster and was a damp squib at the box office .

4 – Le Gaya Saddam : This film was unmitigable disaster . I will always  be a bit special for me because Chirag Patil , a very old student of mine , played a major role in the film . Chirag is incidentally cricketer Sandip Patil’s son .

5 – Future To Bright Hai Ji : Future of this film was definitely not bright at the box office . It tanked without trace .

Second Week – November 09

1 – Its Rocking Dard – E – Disco : Aryeman Ramsay is also my student . He made his debut opposite Amitabh Bachchan in ” Family ” . This flop film will be known for the music director Bappi Lahiri , who made his acting debut .

Third Week – November 16 [ 13 Deepawali ]

1 – Jab Tak Hai Jaan : This directorial venture of Yash Chopra will always be remembered as his last swan – song . It has Shah Rukh Khan in the main lead . It has Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma as the two female protagonists . Both are my students , though Anushka does not acknowledge .

It has one more student of mine . His name is Aashish Singh . He is the Executive Producer of the film .

This film is a huge hit . It has garnered more than 117 crore till now . Apart from ” Ek Tha Tiger “ , this is the second Yash Raj Films to garner more than 100 crore this year .

2 – Son Of Sardaar : This Ajay Devgn starrer clashed with the above mentioned film .  Tanisha Mukerjii , again a very old student , was associated with this film as the Executive producer .

Jeetu Verma , another old student , played an important role in it .

This film also entered in the 100 crore club , collecting more than 101 crore at the box office .

Fourth Week  – November 23

Fifth Week – November 30

1 – Talaash : This Aamir Khan starrer was a much – awaited film . Apart from Aamir Khan and Rani Mukherjee , it also has Kareena Kapoor . She was my student before she signed ” Refugee ” .

2 – Jeet Lengey Jahaan : It failed to win anything and tanked without trace .

Times Celebex : India’s 1st Celebrity Rating Index [ 1 ]

On this Sunday evening , while going through bunch of news papers , which I subscribe , I found an interesting write-up in Bombay Times of Times Of India . It was about ” TIMES CELEBEX ” . This is first ever ranking index of Hindi film stars . Since it is done by Times of India and is powered by Zoom , it has to be quite authentic .

In Hindi film industry , or in any film industry of the world in general , fortunes change every Friday , when the new films hit the screen in theatres . So fixing the rating and ranking is not an easy task . But since it is done by Times of India and as per their claim it is ” most definitive and scientific ranking system ……….. robust ranking system based on data collected from 200+ publications and 250+ TV channels ……………” , one has to believe and take note of this list .

In Memoriam Rajesh Khanna : Zindagi Kaisi Hai Paheli , Hai!

Dara Singh died on July 12 , 2012 . Within a week another luminary of the Hindi film industry bid adieu to this world . Rajesh Khanna died on July 18 , 2012 .

Let me state honestly . I am not his fan . In fact I was never ever a fan or admirer of Rajesh Khanna , the actor or the man . Though I have watched many of his films . I do admire some of his cult films . I definitely remember and hummed many of his iconic songs . I am very much aware of his stupendous super stardom , which , once upon a time , engulfed the film industry like a hurricane or tornado or tsunami . I am witness to those years when every star  was dwarfed in front of him . I am well aware of  those momentous days when everyone or everything became insignificant in his presence . His blitzkrieg darkened all the other objects . His tumultuous rise momentarily eclipsed all the other stars and consigned some of the mightiest stars into the trash bin of history . I am witness to those days . I was living in that era . I am privy to those happenings . In 1972 I was here in Bombay [ now Mumbai ] . I have seen the crowd in front of his bungalow Aashirwaad . I have witnessed the fan adulation . But still , I was not his fan or admirer .

But I was saddened beyond words when I heard the news of his demise . My wife , again not his fan , cried profusely when she watched his funeral procession . So the question arises , what happened to us ? Why we felt for Rajesh Khanna so deeply ? Is it not enigmatic ? Is it not ironical ? No , it is not . Just watch these pictures posted below and notice the horrific changes in his personality down the years and you will fully understand the reason of our empathy .

Within 3 years of making his debut , he attained unimaginable , unheard of and unprecedented super stardom in 1969 with ” Aradhana “ and gave 15 consecutive super hits till 1972 , a record still unbroken . ” Daag ” [ 1973 ] and  ” Namak Haraam ” [ 1973 ] were also big hits . But 1973 was a watershed moment in his career . He was eclipsed by Amitabh Bachchan in ” Namak Haraam “ . Amitabh Bachchan’s career defining film ” Zanjeer “ also came in 1973 . And thus began the well – known downward slide of mighty Super Star Rajesh Khanna .

Alarmed by his waning popularity , he married much younger Dimple Kapadia and made headlines temporarily.

Though in 1974 he gave 2 super hits like ; ” Aap Ki Kasam ” and ” Roti “ but the slide was visible and evident . The era now clearly belonged to Amitabh Bachchan , who once played second fiddle to him in super hit , iconic cult films like ; ” Anand ” and ” Namak Haraam ” .

Poster of these two films can give you Amitabh Bachchan’s position in the industry in those days vis-a-vis Rajesh Khanna . But alas , the cruel hands of fate had started writing some unknown and inglorious chapters of his life with indelible ink .

In 1975 Amitabh Bachchan gave ” Deewar ” and ” Sholay ” . Rajesh Khanna’s mentor and lucky mascot Shakti Samanta made ” Mehbooba ” [ 1975 ] . ” Deewar ” and ” Sholay “ were super hits and became ageless cult classics . While ” Mehbooba “ was a resounding flop and sealed Rajesh Khanna’s fate finally. After 8 years gap and some insignificant films in between , in 1983 , he again came with 2 mega hits like ; ” Avatar ” and ” Soutan “ but the magic was missing . Even these massive hits could not salvage his lost position in the industry . His turbulent career affected his personal life also . In 1984 came the tragic separation from Dimple Kapadia .

From 1983 [ his last hits ] to 2012 [ his death ] ,  29 years of his eventless , colourless career and lonely personal life proved fatal for him . It is regrettable and cruel irony that a c-grade movie ” Wafaa ” [ 2010 ] is his last film .

In between he dabbled in TV also . In total he worked in 4 TV serials . ” Apne Paraye [ B4U TV - 2001 ] , ” Ittefaq ” [ Zee TV - 2002 ] , ” Bhabhima ” [ 2008 ] and ” Raghukul Reet Sada Chali Aayi ” [ DD 1 - 2008 ] . But none could touch the popularity of Amitabh Bachchan’s ” Kaun Banega Crorepati ” [ Star Plus - 2000] .

It is a well-known secret that the title superstar was coined for him by his publicists ; Devyani Chaubal and K. Razdan . But the mass hysteria which he generated in those days and that too without the help of internet , twitter and facebook , is unimaginable , unfathomable and still unattainable . It is regrettable that his stardom or superstardom lasted just for 4 years . 15 successive super hits in a row and then 7 consecutive super flops in a row defines Rajesh Khanna’s strange film career . DEV ANAND : 65 Years [ 1946 Hum Ek Hain - 2011 Chargesheet ]

ASHOK KUMAR : 61 Years [ 1936 Jeevan Naiya - 1997 Aankhon Me Tum Ho ]

DILIP KUMAR : 54 Years [ 1944 Jwar Bhata - 1998 Qila ]

AMITABH BACHCHAN : 40 Years [ 1973 Zanjeer - 2012 Bol Bachchan ]

Stars of this generation SHAH RUKH KHAN , SALMAN KHAN and AAMIR KHAN are reigning kings even after almost 20 years . HRITIK ROSHAN has 12 years of stardom behind him . Even DARA SINGH survived for 45 years [ 1962 King Kong - 2007 Jab We Met ] . But alas ! Rajesh Khanna vanished from the stardom and was banished from the film industry just after 4 years . Though he did 165 films and played solo lead in 107 films but was forgotten by the masses and ignored by the friends and the same film industry , which once said , ” Upar aaqa ; neeche Kaka .”

It is sad . It is heart – wrenching . People say many things about him . I , myself know many stories about him , which are said to be the cause of his downfall . But I don’t want to write those stories after his death . After all he was human and to err is human . Just re – think about some facts of his life . He debuted when he was 24 . He attained superstardom when he was 27 and lost his empire when he was just 31 . After that , till his death , it was 38 year – long wait for regaining his lost empire . It was 38 year – long wait for The Knock at his door by any producer or director . It was 38 year – long wait for the crowd to assemble again at his doorstep . It was 38 year – long wait for the same mass – hysteria , same mass adulation which was once his right and he thought it was his birth right  .

Mass hysteria , mass adulation did happen again but alas , it happened only after his death . See these pictures of his funeral procession and then watch the  crowd in front of his bungalow Aashirwaad and you will be able to feel the irony of fate . I wish , this attention should have happened a year before ……….. or a week before ……… or even a day before ………… he would have died a happy and contented man . But strange are the ways of destiny.

I agree , he did make some mistakes . He did err like a human and for that mistake , for that error destiny punished him with all its might , with all its ferocity , with all its lethal cruelty . He , for his mistakes , never got same benevolence by destiny , which others easily got for their sins . Fate was condescending to others , not to him .

He was like quintessential Greek tragic hero . You can only feel sorry for him . You can empathise with him . And you could hum his memorable song …. zindagi kaisi hai paheli , hai ; kabhi ye hasaye , kabhi ye rulaye ……. Ek din sapno ka rahi , chala jaye sapno se aage kahan ………..

Phenomenon , known as Rajesh Khanna , regained some of his glory once again but alas , only after his death . He had gone forever and had gone even beyond his dreams .

As I finish my blog , I feel , I must express my admiration and gratitude to his son in  law Akshay Kumar and his long – time friend Anju Mahendru , who took every care to give him comfort during his last days . Though it seems futile , but still , it was because of them that a befitting funeral could be arranged for this forgotten phenomenon , fallen Super Star and a lonely icon , who once ruled supreme . Thank you Mr. Akshay Kumar , thank you Madam Anju Mahendru , I bow my head in gratitude ! May God bless you two !

My heart also goes for Rinke Khanna , my student , who was very close and was very much attached to her father .

If I could feel so much without being his fan or admirer , then you can imagine the pain and pathos of his fans and near and dear ones .

Rest In Peace Sir ! Destiny was cruel to you . Better luck in next life .

Achala Sachdev : The ” Zohara Jabeen ” of ” Waqt ” Fades Away

I was busy writing my pending travel diaries of Madhya Pradesh visit , when the news came of the death of Achala Sachdev . She died in Pune on April 30 , 2012 at the age of 91 .

She was not the leading actor but was a very popular character artiste and did many significant and important films in her illustrious career spanning 64 years [ " Fashionable Wife " 1938 to " Na Tum Jaano Na Hum " 2002 ] . In total she did 130 films . I came to know her through Yash Chopra directed film ” Waqt ‘ [ 1965 ] .

I still remember the first encounter with her on-screen . The year was 1967 . The cinema hall was Amarjyoti Talkies , Deoria . A film called ” Waqt “ was being screened there . Every one in the town was going gaga over it . So I decided to watch it . One fine evening I went  , bought ticket and entered the auditorium . Film started and the first scene was greeted with claps , loud uproar and whistles . Soon Balraj Sahni appeared on-screen and started crooning  in the voice of Manna Dey ‘ Aye meri zohra jabeen ; tujhe maloom nahin ; Tu abhi tak hai haseen aur main jawan , tujh pe qurban meri jaan , meri jaan ………………. ” . Throughout the song sequence , close – up of a lady , who was smiling coyly , continuously appeared on-screen in intercut . My film pundit friends informed me that name of the lady is Achala Sachdev .

Last week , when I read about her sad demise , a floodgate of memories got opened and I was transported to my home town Deoria in Uttar Pradesh . Evening of that day in 1967 appeared on my mental firmament . Even after 45 years , the first encounter of Achala Sachdev is not obfuscated even a bit . It is so uncanny that music director Ravi , who created ” Aye meri zihra jabeen …….. for her , also died last month .

After ” Waqt “ , I started following her career and watched some of the important films . Out of her 64 – year – long career ; 3 particular years ; 1964 [ 5 films ] ; 1965 [ 7 films ] and 1971 [ 6 films ] could be considered her most successful years in films . After ” Chandni ” [ 1989 ] she disappeared from the films for 6 years . She again returned with Yash Chopra’s ” Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge ” [ 1995 ] . And after 6 years gap , she again gave a super hit ” Kabhie Khushi Kabhie Gham ” [ 2001 ] .

Born in Peshawar in 1920 , she started her career as child artiste . She did her first film ” Fashionable Wife ” [ 1938 ] at the age of 18 years . She rose to prominence at the age of 45 years with ” Waqt ” [ 1965 ] , a film produced by B. R. Chopra and directed by Yash Chopra . She worked with Ashok Kumar , Dilip Kumar , Raj Kapoor and Dev Anand . Then she worked with Shammi Kapoor , Rajendra Kumar , Sunil Dutt and Dharmendra . Generations changed but she continues to play stellar roles . She , during her later years , worked with Amitabh Bachchan , Rishi Kapoor , Shah Rukh Khan and Hritik Roshan also . She was there in ” Sapno Ka Saudagar ” [ debut of Hema Malini ] , ” Prem Pujari ” [ debut of Dev Anand as director ] , ” Mera Naam Joker ” [ debut of Rishi Kapoor ] , ” Paraya Dhan ” [ debut of Rakesh Roshan as actor ] , ” Kal Aaj Aur Kal ” [ debut of Randhir Kapoor as actor and directed ] , ” Daag ” [ debut of Yash Raj Films ] , ” Geeta Mera Naam ” [ debut of Sadhna as director ] and above all ” Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge ” [ debut of Aditya Chopra as director ] .

She worked , before partition , for All India Radio , Lahore and after partition for All India Radio , New Delhi .

During her later years she married Clifford Douglas Peters and settled in Pune . From there she occasionally came to Mumbai for Yash Chopra’s films .

3 Phases of Achala Sachdev

In 2011 she fell in her kitchen and since then was admitted in a Pune hospital . Her end came on April 30 , 2012 .

I was saddened to see her these two photos . A young Achala Sachdev of ” Waqt “ and a bed – ridden Achala Sachdev befor her death . Her only son from her first marriage is settled in U. S. A. and had no time for her . I am no one to comment on his relationship with his mother but it is heart – wrenching to know that Achala Sachdev died a lonely death . From September 2011 to April 2012 , she was bed – ridden with fractured leg , total paralysis and loss of vision and her only son was leading a comfortable life in U. S. A. with his nuclear family . I have no authority to say anything to him but I know that I would not have abandoned my mother like this .

I can only offer my prayers for Achala Sachdev ji . May God give her peace and tranquility .

Farewell ” ZOHRA JABEEN ” !!  You are gone but ” star – like glitter of your forehead ” shall always remain with us .

As long as we have prints of  ” Waqt “ , you will live in our heart .

Last month music arranger Anthony Fernandes left us . In the month of February another music arranger Anil Mohile bid us adieu .

He died on February 01 , 2012 at the age of 71 in Mumbai . In a career spanning 5 decades , he worked with Sachin Dev Burman , Kalyanji – Anandji ,  Khayyam , Hridaynath Mangeshkar and Srinivas Khale .

He was arranger for Lata Mangeshkar’s public concerts also .

Raj Kanwar , maker of ” Deewana ” [ 1992 ] ,  ” Laadla ” [ 1994 ] , ” Jaan ” [ 1996 ] , ” Jeet ” [ 1996 ] , ” Judaai ” [ 1997 ] , ” Har Dil Jo Pyar Karega ” [ 2000 ] , ” Dhaii Akshar Prem Ke ” [ 2000 ] , ” Farz ” [ 2001 ] , ” Ab Ke Baras ” [ 2002 ] , ” Andaaz [ 2003 ] ,  ” Humko Deewana Kar Gaye ” [ 2006 ]  and ” Sadiyaan ” [ 2010 ] died on February 03 , 2012 in Singapore at the age of 51 .

He has unique distinction of launching Shah Rukh Khan , Priyanka Chopra , Aarya Babbar and Luv Sinha .

Father of filmmaker J. P. Dutta , and himself a filmmaker and dialogue writer of repute , O. P. Dutta died on February 09 , 2012 in Mumbai . He was 90 years old .

Maker of films like ;  ” Pyar Ki Jeet ” [ 1948 ] , Ek Nazar ” [ 1951 ] ,  ” Malkin ” [ 1953 ] and ” Lagan ” [ 1955 ] , he directed films till 1959 and made 9 films . Later on he started writing screenplay and dialogues . He wrote dialogues for ” Ghulami ” [ 1985 ] , ” Yateem ” [ 1988 ] , ” Hathyar ” [ 1989 ] , ” Kshatriya ” [ 1993 ] , ” Border ” [ 1997 ] , ” Refugee ” [ 2000 ] , ” LOC Kargil ” [ 2003 ] and ” Umrao Jaan ” [ 2006 ] . All the above mentioned films were directed by his son , filmmaker J. P. Dutta .

He won Lifetime Achievement Award i 2006 .

A renowned poet of Urdu language , Shahryar a.k.a. Akhlaq Mohammad Khan , who also won Jnanpith Award in 2008 for his contribution to Urdu literature , died on February 13 , 2012 in Aligarh , Uttar Pradesh . He was suffering from lung cancer .

He , apart from writing ghazals and nazms , also wrote lyrics for highly successful films like ;  ” Gaman ” [ 1978 ] , ” Umrrao Jaan ” [ 1981 ] and ” Anjuman ” [ 1986 ] , all directed by Muzaffar Ali .

Raj Kanwar : A Journey From ” Deewana ” to ” Sadiyaan “

Death is always painful . It is more painful if a young life is lost . I was shocked when I heard about the sad demise of Mr. Raj Kanwar . He died on February 03 , 2012 at the age of  51 in Singapore . He was suffering from kidney ailment from the past year . It is uncanny that his elder brother Mr. K. Pappu also died of kidney ailment  and that too almost at the same age .

He started his film journey as an assistant to Shekhar Kapur and Raj Kumar Santoshi . He started as independent director with ” Deewana ” [1992 ] , a Rishi Kapoor , Shah Rukh Khan and Divya Bharti starrer . This film is Shah Rukh Khan’s first and major hit in Hindi film industry .

After stupendous success of ” Deewana “ [ 1992 ] , he made another blockbuster ” Laadla ” [ 1994 ] . And then followed ” Kartavya ” [ 1995 ] .

After 3 hits in a row , he made ” Jaan ” [ 1996 ] and ” Jeet ” [ 1996 ] . Both the films were released in 1996 .

Next year , he returned with 2 films ;  ” Judaai ” [ 1997 ] and ” Itihaas ” [ 1997 ] .

” Itihaas “ was followed by ” Daag : The Fire ” [ 1999 ] and ” Badal ” [ 2000 ] .

2000 was the only year in the entire career of Mr. Raj Kanwar , when he made 3 films . Apart from ” Badal “ , he made ” Har Dil Jo Pyar Karega ” [ 2000 ] and ” Dhaai Akshar Prem Ke ” [ 2000 ] .

” Dhaai Akshar Prem Ke “ shall always be remembered by the connoisseurs of Hindi films because it brought Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai together on the screen for the first time . After this film , he came with ” Farz ” [ 2001 ] .

After ” Farz “ , he returned with ” Ab Ke Baras ” [ 2002 ] . Unfortunately this film bombed at the box office . In this film he introduced Aarya Babbar and Amrita Rao . Incidentally , Aarya babbar is my student .

After ” Ab Ke Baras “ , he came with ” Andaaz ” [ 2003 ] , one of the biggest hits of his career . He introduced Priyanka Chopra  and Lara Datta in this film . And again incidentally Priyanka Chopra is my student .

After 3 years hiatus , he returned with ” Humko Deewana Kar gaye ” [ 2006 ] .

Then again he returned after a gap of  4 years with ” Sadiyaan ” [ 2010 ] . It is sad that his last film bombed badly . Despite all the brickbats it got , it will always be close to my heart because it introduced 2 of my students ; Luv Sinha and Ferena Wazeir .

In total he made 16 films in a career spanning 20 years . He gave break to many new comers . Among his discoveries 4 are my students . They are ; Priyanka Chopra , Aarya Babbar , Luv Sinha and Ferena Wazeir .

During the making of ” Sadiyaan “ , I met him in his office . He wanted to know about Ferena’s progress and I went to meet him along with Ferena . I still remember the evening I spent with him .

Then again I met him at the music launch of  ” Sadiyaan “ at The Club . I never knew that it was my last meeting with him .

2011 ended on a mixed note .  A very disturbing trend emerged in 2011 . Revenue from theatres went down . Revenue from other sources like ; audio , video and satellite rights are accruing to the overall earning of a film and making it profitable . Subsidies from foreign countries are also very substantial .

So in 2011 total 229 films were released . And out of 229 film , only 38 films were money earners . Rest 191 were flops . Success ratio of the films released in 2011 is 17 % .  It means 83 % films were flop . This year’s 229 films are less in numbers than 250 films of 2010 . It is 21 less than last year .

” Ra.One “ was released with fabulous response due to Deepavali and holiday period but could not sustain during week days and collections dropped menacingly. In overall reckoning , it collected more than 100 crore and after ” 3 Idiots ” , ” Bodyguard ” , ” Dabangg ” , ” Ready ” , ” Ghajini ” , “  Golmaal 3 ” and ” Singham “ , is the 8th member of 100 crore club of films .

This month ” Rockstar “ also created history as the biggest solo Ranbir Kapoor grosser .

A prolific story – screenplay writer of Hindi films , who has some biggest hits to his credits , died last month. But since the news came late , I am reporting about this in the November edition of my film diary .

K. K. Singh , who wrote ” Ram Teri Ganga Maili “ , biggest hit of Raj Kapoor‘s career , died on October 30 , 2011 in his sleep at his Chembur residence. He was 58 at the time of his death .

Apart from writing screenplay and dialogues , he once dabbled in direction also with Salman Khan starrer ” Veergati “ . The film bombed at box office and after this debacle , K. K. Singh lost it forever .

Bhupen Hazarika :

Dr. Bhupen Hazarika belonged to Assam and initially composed music for Assamese films. He got many National Awards in the capacity of music director for his Assamese films .

But later on he gave music for various Hindi films , like ; ” Ek Pal ” [ 1986 ] , ” Rudaali ” [ 1993 ] , ” Darmiyan ” [ 1997 ] , ” Saaz ” [ 1998 ] , ” Gaj Gamini ” [ 2000 ] , ” Daman ” [ 2001 ] and ” Kyon ? ” [ 2003 ] .

Due to his enormous contribution to the music world , I have written a separate blog about him .

Ace choreographer of Marathi films , who has done few Hindi films also , Subal Sarkar died on November 12 , 2011 at the age of 75 .

In his career , he choreographed songs of 350 Marathi and Hindi films .

His famous and well – known films are ; ” Pandu Hawaldar ” , ” Ram Ram Gangaram ” , ” Bot Laavin Tithe Gudgulya ” and ” Maherchi Saadi ” ,

He had won Maharashtra Government’s Best Choreographer Award 9 times .

Actor , writer Pratap Sharma died on November 30 , 2011 in Mumbai at the age of 72 .

As an actor , he worked in few are important , like ; ” Phir Bhi ” , ” Andolan “  , ” Tyag Patra ” , ” Pehla Kadam ” and ” Nehru – The Jewel of India ” .

He won National Award for ” Phir Bhi ” .

I used to go to his apartment to train his daughter Tara Sharma and met him couple of times .
