In the Hindustan Times of August 25 , 2012 , there was an article in HT Cafe section . It is about 8 stars of Hindi cinema , who are currently ruling the box office and yet are below 30 years of age . Their names are ; Ranbir Kapoor , Katrina Kaif , Priyanka Chopra , Imran Khan , Sonam Kapoor , Deepika padukone , Sonakshi Sinha and Anushka Sharma .

It is very heartening to note that out of these 8 stars , 5 are my students and were trained by me during different phases of my career .

RANBIR KAPOOR : ” Saawariya ” to ” Rockstar “

I trained him before his debut film ” Saawariya ” [ 2007 ] . I used to go to his Pali Hill bungalow and work with him . I am happy to see his rise to the dizzying heights of super – stardom . I also attended the premier of his first film ” Saawariya “ at the Imax theatre , Wadala in Mumbai .

After 7 years of gap , I again met him at Manali in March 2012 . He had gone there for ” Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani “ , a film being produced by Karan Johar and Dharma Productions . I was also there to train Kalki Koechlin for the same film . Much has been changed since his ” Saawariya “ days . From a confident newcomer , he has now become a super – confident super – star . I was ushered into his room in Manu Allaya , a 5 star hotel in Manali by Kalki Koechlin . I was sceptical . Whether he would recognize me or not ? When Kalki told him about a visitor , he came forward , recognized me immediately and warmly hugged me .

As per trade grapevine he charges INR 8 – 10 crore per film . For ads he charges 1 – 2 crore per ad per day .

His major endorsements are ; Panasonic , Pepsi , Tata Docomo , Nissan , Ronco Leone Shoes , Hero Moto Corp and Lenovo .

KATRINA KAIF : ” Boom ” to ” Ek Tha Tiger “

With katrina Kaif In Her Apartment

She is again a rising super star among female artistes . Coming from a non – filmy background and without much knowledge of  Hindi language , she climbed the stairs of stardom and is now the most successful female star of Hindi film industry .

I was called by Yash Raj Films to train her for ” New York ” [ 2009 ] . I worked with her briefly for that film . Later on she again called me for Prakash Jha’s film  ” Raajneeti ” [ 2010 ]  . I worked on her accent . Results are there for everyone to see . She is tremendously hard-working girl .

As per trade analysts , she charges INR 3 – 4 crore per film . For ads she gets 1 – 1.5 per ad per day .

Her major endorsements are ; Barbie , Choc – On , Linc Uniball , Lux , Nakshatra , Olay , Panasonic , Pantene , Slice , Titan , Wrigleys , Yardley and Veet .

PRIYANKA CHOPRA : ” The Hero ” to ” Agneepath “

Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif are my personal students . I used to go to their houses . But Priyanka Chopra was my student in Mr. Kishore Namit Kapoor’s classes ,  with whom I was working those days .

She joined the class after being crowned Miss World in 2000 . She made her acting debut with Tamil film ” Thamizhan ” [ 2002 ] . Her first Hind film was ” The Hero ” [ 2003 ] . She gained superstardom with ” Andaaz ” [ 2003 ] .

Till date she has got 1 National Award and 4 Filmfare Awards .

As per trade pundits , she charges INR 2 – 3 crores per film . For ads she charges INR 65 – 75 lakh per ad per day .

Her major endorsements are ; Nokia , Dabur , Dabur Amla , Garnier , Samsung , Bru , Nikon , Hero Honda and Asmi .

IMRAN KHAN : ” Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na ” to ” Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu “

He , also , is not my personal student . He became my student when he joined Kishore Namit Kapoor’s classes .

He made his debut with ” Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na ” [ 2008 ] . His last release was ” Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu ” [ 2012 ] . Though he is only 8 films old , he , among the stars of his age , is considered bankable . Incidentally his heroine Genelia D’Souza in his debut film is also my student .

As per industry grapevine he charges INR 5 – 7 crores per film . For ads he demands INR INR 1 – 1.5 crore per ad per day .

His major endorsements are Levis and Coke .

SONAM KAPOOR : ” Saawariya ” to ” Mausam “

One day I got a call from Mr. Anil Kapoor . He wanted me to come to his house . I immediately rushed and to my surprise I found that he wanted me to train his daughter , who was making her debut in ” Saawariya ” [ 2007 ] with Ranbir Kapoor . I trained her for the film . She is , contrary to her image , very warm – hearted girl . She is style icon and a philanthropist .

She is only 7 films old , but is considered as one of the rising stars among the girls of her age .

According to trade pundits , she gets INR 50 – 75 lakh per film . For ads she demands INR 25 – 50 lakh per ad per day .

Her major endorsements are ; L’Oreal , Spice Mobile , Mont Blanc , Electrolux , Indian Gems and Jewellery Exibition .

[ So out of these 5 stars , 3 are my personal students and remaining 2 were my students in Mr. Kapoor's class . ]

DEEPIKA PADUKONE and SONAKSHI SINHA are not my students . So there is not much to write about them .

Her case is peculiar . She was in the Batch No. 19 of Kreating Charakters . But she constantly refuses to accept this . She says that she is not trained . So let it be . If she does not accept me as her teacher , so I cannot force myself to be her teacher . May God bless her in her journey !

Last month music arranger Anthony Fernandes left us . In the month of February another music arranger Anil Mohile bid us adieu .

He died on February 01 , 2012 at the age of 71 in Mumbai . In a career spanning 5 decades , he worked with Sachin Dev Burman , Kalyanji – Anandji ,  Khayyam , Hridaynath Mangeshkar and Srinivas Khale .

He was arranger for Lata Mangeshkar’s public concerts also .

Raj Kanwar , maker of ” Deewana ” [ 1992 ] ,  ” Laadla ” [ 1994 ] , ” Jaan ” [ 1996 ] , ” Jeet ” [ 1996 ] , ” Judaai ” [ 1997 ] , ” Har Dil Jo Pyar Karega ” [ 2000 ] , ” Dhaii Akshar Prem Ke ” [ 2000 ] , ” Farz ” [ 2001 ] , ” Ab Ke Baras ” [ 2002 ] , ” Andaaz [ 2003 ] ,  ” Humko Deewana Kar Gaye ” [ 2006 ]  and ” Sadiyaan ” [ 2010 ] died on February 03 , 2012 in Singapore at the age of 51 .

He has unique distinction of launching Shah Rukh Khan , Priyanka Chopra , Aarya Babbar and Luv Sinha .

Father of filmmaker J. P. Dutta , and himself a filmmaker and dialogue writer of repute , O. P. Dutta died on February 09 , 2012 in Mumbai . He was 90 years old .

Maker of films like ;  ” Pyar Ki Jeet ” [ 1948 ] , Ek Nazar ” [ 1951 ] ,  ” Malkin ” [ 1953 ] and ” Lagan ” [ 1955 ] , he directed films till 1959 and made 9 films . Later on he started writing screenplay and dialogues . He wrote dialogues for ” Ghulami ” [ 1985 ] , ” Yateem ” [ 1988 ] , ” Hathyar ” [ 1989 ] , ” Kshatriya ” [ 1993 ] , ” Border ” [ 1997 ] , ” Refugee ” [ 2000 ] , ” LOC Kargil ” [ 2003 ] and ” Umrao Jaan ” [ 2006 ] . All the above mentioned films were directed by his son , filmmaker J. P. Dutta .

He won Lifetime Achievement Award i 2006 .

A renowned poet of Urdu language , Shahryar a.k.a. Akhlaq Mohammad Khan , who also won Jnanpith Award in 2008 for his contribution to Urdu literature , died on February 13 , 2012 in Aligarh , Uttar Pradesh . He was suffering from lung cancer .

He , apart from writing ghazals and nazms , also wrote lyrics for highly successful films like ;  ” Gaman ” [ 1978 ] , ” Umrrao Jaan ” [ 1981 ] and ” Anjuman ” [ 1986 ] , all directed by Muzaffar Ali .

A renowned music arranger  and  legendary violinist , an inspiration behind Amitabh Bachchan’s name in ” Amar Akbar Anthony “ , Anthony Prabhu Gonsalves died on January 18, 2012 in Goa . He was 84 at the time of his death . He is considered the first music arranger of India apart from being a conductor and composer .

His career began with legendary Bombay Talkies in 1943 and later on he worked with many music directors like ; Naushad , Anil Biswas , Ghulam Haider , Sachin Dev Burman , Laxmikant Pyarelal and Rahul Dev Burman . In total he arranged music for almost 400 films . He even taught music to Pyarelal of Lakshmikant Pyarelal fame and later on taught music to Rahul Dev Burman and also worked with him as an arranger .

“  Mahal ” , ” Naya Daur ” , Dillagi ” and ” Pyasa “ are some of his well – known films as arranger .

Renowned film critic of Times of India , Nikhat Kazmi died on January 20 , 2012 in Delhi . She was only 53 at the time of her death and was suffering from breast cancer .

Born in 1958 in Allahabad , Uttar Pradesh , she was associated with Times of India for almost 2 decades .  She was one of the few film critics who started star – rating  trends . Despite her ill-health , she continued watching films and writing reviews till the end . Her last reviewed films were last week released ” Ghost ” and ” Sadda Adda “ .

Jagmohan Mundhra :

A director , who directed actors like ; Sanjeev Kumar , Shabana Azmi , Deepti Naval , Nandita Das and Aishwarya Rai , but was still not included in the A listers of Hindi film industry , Jagmohan Mundhra , died in Mumbai of cardiac arrest on September 04 , 2011 at the age of 62 .

He made films like Sanjeev Kumar and Shabana Azmi starrer ” Suraag ” [ 1982 ] , Shabana Azmi and Deepti Naval starrer ” Kamla ” [ 1985 ] , Nandita Das starrer ” Bawandar ” [ 2001 ] and Aishwarya Rai starrer  ” Provoked  ” [ 2007 ] . In between he made several horror and erotic movies in Hollywood . Those movies tarnished his image , which he retrieved to some extent with ” Provoked ” and ” Bawandar “.

In some of his films , he worked as an actor also .

Shaikh Shafique :

Though not a regular actor , Shaikh Shafique played main protagonist in Anurag Kashyap’s yet to be released  ” Malegaon Ka Superrman “ . 28 years old Shafique was suffering from throat cancer and was unable to speak or move . He died on September 07 , 2011 .

Gautam Rajadhyaksh :

Eminent photographer and a portraitist , who shot most of the star – kids’ first ever profile photographs , Gautam Rajadhyaksh died in Mumbai on September 13, 2011.

After completing his diploma in advertizing and public relations , he joined the photo services department of Lintas India Ltd. in 1974. He joined the company as a copywriter and later on took charge of photography department.

He also wrote screenplay of  ” Bekhudi “ [ 1992 ] , Kajol’s debut film incidentally  Saif Ali khan was also signed to make debut with this film but he was dropped from the film and finally Kamal Sadana did the lead opposite Kajol. His second scripted film ” Anjaam “ prsented Madhuri Dixit in a challenging role.

In 1997, he published his coffee – table book ” Faces “ , featuring Divas of Hindi film industry.

At the time of his death , he was busy in setting up a faculty of photography at Symbiosis , Pune.

Surinder Kapoor :

Father of Boney Kapoor , Anil Kapoor and Sanjay Kapoor and producer of several films , Mr. Surinder Kapoor died of cardiac arrest on September 24 , 2011 in Mumbai. He was 86 at the time of his death.

He was assistant to Late K. Asif during ” Mughal – E – Azam “ and later on became secretary of Geeta Bali and Shammi Kapoor.

Later on he turned producer and made films like ; ” Woh 7 Din ” , ” Hum Paanch ” and ” Phool Khile Hain Gulshan Gulshan ” .

Vidur’s Film Diary – May 2011

DEORIA – UTTAR PRADESH – INDIA                 JUNE 01, 2011                    01.00 P.M.

In this 25th edition of Vidur’s Film Diary, I would like to take stock of the first quarter of the year 2011. Hindi film industry suffered losses of over 200 crores in this first quarter. Of the 67 releases so far [ including dubbed ones ] , only 06 films made it to the hit list. This is a paltry 10% success ratio. ” NO ONE KILLED JESSICA “, ” YAMLA PAGLA DEEWANA “, ” DIL TOH BACCHA HAI JI “, ” DHOBI GHAT “, ” TANU WEDS MANU ” and ” F.A.L.T.U. ” could be called hits. Certainly not a very healthy . rosy picture indeed. But industry is celebrating because the first quarter of 2011 is better than the first quarter of the previous year.

May 2011 will be remembered for the fact that Yash Raj Films launched its new banner for the young generation, called Y Films. Maiden venture of this banner ” Luv Ka The End “  was released in the first week of this month. It is good that such a prestigious banner announces a banner exclusively for the new comers and youngsters.

This month 3 of my students walked down the red carpet at the 34th Cannes Film Festival. They are : Saif Ali Khan , Sonam Kapoor and Minissha Lamba.

Micro – blogging site Twitter has become the latest in thing. There are three celebrities who have more than 1 Million followers on twitter. After Sachin Tendulkar and Shashi Tharoor, my student Priyanka Chopra became the third celebrity to attain this status. She is closely followed by Shah Rukh Khan and Amitabh Bachchan.

On Facebook also there was a good news. Ranbir Kapoor became the 4th most popular actor of Hindi film on Facebook after Aamir Khan , Salman Khan and Priyanka Chopra. Of these 4 celebrities , 2 are my students. They are Priyanka Chopra and Ranbir Kapoor.

58th National Awards were announced this month. ” Dabangg ” got award as the film providing wholesome entertainment. It was produced by my student Arbaz Khan and has Sonu Sood , another student of mine , as the main antagonist.

Obituary :

Somak Mukerjee : A FTII graduate of 2004 batch, this brilliant cinematographer died in a freak motorcycle accident in Kolkata on April 25, 2011 at the age of 37. He was cameraman for films like : ” Pankh ” , ” Black And White ” and ” Ugly Aur Pagli ” . ” Pankh ” , incidently , was his debut film.

Mala Sen : Though not a full-time film writer, she was instrumental in writing the script of Shekhar Kapur’s internationally acclaimed film ” Bandit Queen “  [ 1994 ] . She met Phoolan Devi in jail and interviewed her several times and then wrote a book on her , based on the interviews. Later on she wrote the script for the film ” Bandit Queen ” . She died on May 23, 2011 at the age of 64. She was suffering from cancer and breathed her last at Tata Memoreal Hospital , Mumbai.

Vidur’s Film Diary – April 2011

MUMBAI – MAHARASHTRA – INDIA                   MAY 01 , 2011                       00.45 A.M.

This particular edition is the 24th edition of  “  Vidur’s Film Diaries “ . Two long years , two momentous years and these uninterrupted  notes of the diary about my students and their work in Indian films , TV serials and Theatre productions. A very satisfying  journey indeed. Through the work of my students , I also gauge my own standing in this ever slippery world of entertainment.

April’s first two releases opened as expected. Third release ” Thank You “ also couldn’t cheer the mood. Fate of the other releases were no better.

Rami Reddy : A versatile actor and successful villain of Telugu and Hindi cinema died on April 14, 2011 in Hyderabad at the age of 52  . His made his debut in 1990 in Telugu hit ” Ankusam “ . Same year he essayed a successful character in Chiranjeevi and Juhi Chawla starrer ” Pratibandh “ . It’s the 1st month of 2011. First release of the year opened quite well. But bad memories of the last year will take some time to get erased. Most of the films are still bombing with same regularity. Scenario is not very rosy yet and may take some time to stabilize.

Vivek Shauq : Noted comedian and a brilliant actor Vivek Shauq died of cardiac arrest on January 10, 2011. He was 47 years old is best known for his work with Jaspal Bhatti in shows like Flop Show,Ulta Pulta and Full Tension .

Its August and like much-needed rains, it brought some cheers in the industry also. Dry spell of the first half of the year is broken. Last month saw some genuine hits and these hits came as a much-needed respite. ” I Hate Luv Storys “, ” Udaan “, ” Tere Bin Laden “ and ” Once Upon A Time In Mumbai “ became sleeper hits. August starts with the promising note as ” Aisha “ releases too much critical and commercial acclaim. Then ” Peepli [Live] “ changed the whole scenario.

Though all is not well because compared to Hindi films, Hollywood’s latest flick ” Inception “ garnered better share at the box office.

SURAJ PRAKASH :

He died on July 28 at the age of 79. His obituary should have been in the Vidur’s Film Diary – July 2010. But I was not aware of his death, as national media ignored it completely and it was reported only in IMPPA Bulletin, Film Information and Screen. It is sad state of affair for a man , who gave ” Jab Jab Phool Khile ” (1965 ) to the industry. He made his debut with Rajendra Kumar, Mala Sinha starrer ” Patang “. His second film ” Mehndi Lagi Mere Haath ” starring Shashi Kapoor and Nanda was the first solo hit of lyricist Anand Bkshi. His third film ” Jab Jab Phool Khile ” changed the career graph of Shashi Kapoor, Nanda, Anand Bakshi and Kalyanji Anandji. It was a block-buster of its time. After that he made several films like ” Aamne Saamne ” and ” Juari ” . He ghost-directed ” Bewafa Sanam” , officially a Gulshan Kumar directed film. His last film ” Mere Jeevan Sathi ” ( 2006 ) starring Akshay Kumar, Karishma Kapoor and Amisha Patel was as a producer. It is sad that he went unsung.

KAMAL KAPOOR :

Veteran actor Kamal Kapoor died on August 02 in Mumbai. He was 90 years old. Today’s generation might not recognize him but once upon a time Kamal Kapoor was a very successful villain in Hindi films.

I saw him in ” Johar Mehmood In Goa ” for the first time. He played a Portuguese officer in the film. His menacing look and fierce demeanour is still fresh in my memory. One particular scene , where he puts his hand in the aquarium and lifts a fish from the water while torturing the freedom fighter, is still fresh in my memory. Fish was fighting for its life in his hands and freedom fighter was being tortured in front of him. He was so brilliant in the film and he performed so well in this particular scene, that no connoisseur of film will ever forget it.His face and his eyes were his assets and he used them for maximum effect. After Johar Mehmood In Goa I watched him in several films and he was always brilliant even in mediocre films.

He is survived by his children and grandchildren, producer Srishti Behl Arya and producer – director Goldie Behl. Incidentally my student Sonali Bendre is married to Goldie Behl.

Vidur’s Film Diary – July 2010

Its July and half the year is gone. First half of the year ended and there is not a very heartening news for the industry.. Industry suffered losses to the tune of 300 crores. ” RAAVAN “,  “KITES “, ” VEER “, ” PRINCE “, ” TEEN PETTI ” and ” RANN “ were some of the notable flops. From January to june 81 Hindi films were released.Out of these, only 10 films managed to make some profit. First quarter ie January to march saw only two hits : ” PAA ” and ” LOVE SEX AUR DHOKHA “. Second quarter saw only three films hitting the bulls eyes. They were : ” HOUSEFULL “, ” BADMAASH COMPANY “ and ” RAAJNEETI “. Rest 5, somehow barely recovered the cost.

MANOHARI SINGH :

Hindi Film’s most sought after saxophone player, Manohari da died on July 13, 2010 following a cardiac arrest. He was chief assistant of S. D. Burman and R. D. Burman. This legendary saxophone player adorned many hindi film songs such as my all time favourites – Dil Jo Na Keh Saka from ‘ BHEEGI RAAT ” and evergreen Gata Rahe Mera Dil from ” GUIDE “. He was awarded Radio Mirchi’s Musical Award in 2009.

SATISH BHATNAGAR :

An eminent screenplay and dialogue writer, Satish Bhatnagar died on July 07, 2010. He used to write screenplay for Late B. R. Chopra, along with Dr. Rahi Masoom Reza. Last film which he wrote for him was BAGHBAN. For others, he wrote very successful films such as ” Maryada “, ” Seeta Aur Geeta “, ” Himalay Se Ooncha “, ” Satte Pe Satta “, and Prakash Mehra”s “  Hera Pheri “.
It is extremely sad that he died in penury and did not have money to pay his hospital bills. He could survive with The Film Writer’s Association’s financial aid.

RAVI BASWANI :

Acclaimed comrdian Ravi Baswani died in Haldwani, Uttarakhand on July 27th, where he had gone to scout locations for his directorial venture. An extremely talented actor, Ravi Baswani shall always be remembered for films like ” Chashme Badoor “ and ” Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron “. Chashme Badoor ( 1981) , was directed by Sai Paranjpe was his first film. Then he acted in his most successful film ” Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron ” ( 1983 ) directed by Kundan Shah. He was recently seen in ” Bunty Aur Babli ” ( 2005) , and ” Yun Hota To Kya Hota ” ( 2006 ). The last film, Naseeruddin Shah’s first directorial venture, is now his last film.

Baswani also acted on television and was very popular in Doordarshan’s 1980s hit serial  ” Idhar Udhar ” .

Incidently for his cult film Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron , he won Filmfare Best Comedian Award. He was dean of acting in Film & Television Institute of India also, where he leant acting years ago. From Chashme Buddoor ( 1981 ) to Yun Hota To Kya Hota ( 2006 ) , a career spanning 35 years, he acted in 30 films.

In total 09 films got released this month. Out of these 09 films my students were there in 07 films. There were 14 students of mine working in these 07 films.. Out of these 14 students 11 are actors, 01 Punit Malhotra is director of ” I Hate Luv Storys “, 01 Sanjay Singh is producer of ” Udaan ” and 01 Shekhar Ravjiani of the famous Vishal-Shekhar duo, the music director of  ”  I Hate Luv Storys ” . A satisfying month, I can say .

1 - Hritik Roshan will play the part originally played by Amitabh Bachchan in ” Agnipath “.

2 – Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s Hollywood movie ” Broken Horses ” will roll in September 2010.

3 – Hritik Roshan will be the 5th Hindi film actor, after Amitabh Bachchan,Shah Rukh Khan,Aishwarya Rai and Salman Khan, to have his wax statue featured at the Madame Tussaud’s wax museun in London.

4 -Sudhir Mishra and Ketan Mehta were conferred French government’s award ARTS ET LETTERS.

I (dont) Hate (such) Luv Storys

As I am writing this blog, I am confronted with a strange fact. I started my twitter account on June 17th, 2009 and till date I have only 83 followers. Its one year now. But Mr. Amitabh Bachchan started tweeting on May 18th, 2010 and he has 2,16,425 followers. Its has been only 46 days. The fact of the matter is that he started his journey on twitter almost 1 year after me. I am not cribbing, or voicing my anguish. I am just stating a fact. This twitter account statistic shows that I have yet to cover a long distance. It shows that I am just a speck in the universe as for as success is concerned. This is fact and I am ready to accept that.

But everything is not that gloomy. There are few occasions to celebrate here and there. Sometimes there is a news to cherish.and rejoice. And today as ” I HATE LUV STORYS” releases in the theatres worldwide , I am feeling that kind of happiness. It is very important film for me. Its main protagonists – Imran Khan, Sonam Kapoor and Sammir Dattani are my students. Its director Punit malhotra, who is nephew of Mr. Manish Malhotra, is my student too. The music director Shekhar Ravjiani of Vishal-Shekhar duo, is also a student of mine. When you have 5 students in one film and that too almost in every important departments, it’s definitely a proud moment for a trainer.

PUNIT MALHOTRA : This well-behaved nephew of ace designer Mr. Manish Malhotra, was my student years ago. At that time he was assisting Mr. Karan Johar and was dreaming to make it big as an actor. He assisted Mr. Karan Johar in ” KABHIE KHUSHI KABHIE GHAM “. Then he was assistant in ” KAL HO NA HO “ and ” PAHELI “ also. After that he became a model and did one ad with Mr. Shah Rukh Khan. He was working hard to become an actor but Mr. Karan Johar gave him an offer to direct a film. I advised him to put aside his dream of becoming an actor for the time being and take the plunge . He started scripting and as soon as script was complete, ” I HATE LUV STORYS “ rolled. It got completed and got released on July 02, 2010. It created a lot of positive buzz and Punit’s career as a director is launched. I am happy for the newest director of Hindi film industry.

SONAM KAPOOR : I trained her during ” SAAWARIYA ” days.  I was already training Ranbir Kapoor at that time. He mentioned my name to Mr. Anil Kapoor and one day I got a call from him. I went to meet Mr. and Mrs. Anil kapoor and soon started training Sonam. She is an accomplished Kathak dancer and worked really hard for ” SAAWARIYA “. It’s unfortunate that film tanked badly and got bad press. But Ranbir Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor were praised for their acting skills. Sonam’s second film ” DELHI 6 ” also tanked and it was sad to see this beautiful girl’s efforts not bearing fruits. Fortunately ” I HATE LUV STORYS ” will change the scenario.

SAMMIR DATTANI : I used to go to his Malabar Hills apartment to train him. In those early years of my career I had a Bajaj Super scooter and I used to commute on it. From Andheri to Malabar Hills, it was a tiring ride , but I used to go to his place because of the tremendous respect which his whole family has for me. He started working in Kannada film and made his debut in ” NANNA PRITIYA HUDUGI ” in 2001. Film was a smash hit and launched Sammir in the Kannada industry . He is known there as DHYAN. After that he worked in couple of Kannada films, such as : ” MONALISA ” , ” JOOTATA “ and ” AMRUTHADHARE “. In the last mentioned film even Mr. Amitabh Bachchan played a cameo. Sammir worked in a Tamil film also. Its name is ” KUTTY ” . I have seen all his regional films as he used to have private screening of all his films in Mumbai and never ever forgot to invite me.

Then he was signed to play main lead in a Hindi film called ” UFF KYA JAADOO MOHABBAT HAI “. It was a Rajshri Production film and Sammir was signed for it along with 3 other new comers. Tanishaa was the female lead but later on she opted out of the film. I was assigned to train all of them and I started going to Rajshri’s office. By that  time I had Bajaj Pulsar and I was commuting on that. Film got released and was a damp squib at the box office. Undeterred Sammir signed another Hindi film ” PYAAR MEIN TWIST “ and after its release he thought that he needs some more modulation and voice training . He again called me and I started going to his place once again. Even after so many years, the warmth and respect of Sammir and his family was same for me. It is yet to diminish. Before IHLS , Sammir did some other  good films : ” CORPORATE ” , ” MUKHBIR “ and ” WELL DONE ABBA “ are some of them. His last one is my personal favourite. I was invited for the private screening of ” WELL DONE ABBA “. I went there in my car. So from a rickety Bajaj Super scooter to Bajaj Pulsar and now a Maruti Swift, my relationship with Sammir has seen all the shades and colours of my life.

SHEKHAR RAVJIANI : I got a call from an assistant of Mr. Aditya Chopra and was informed that I have to train Shekhar of Vishal-Shekhar duo. I started going to his  Khar apartment and worked with him. He is a talent music director and a charming human being. He is a good singer and has wonderful screen presence. He made me listen almost all the songs of  ” I HATE LUV STORYS “ and I knew that his score is going to top the charts. He used to work with me in the morning and worked on the  musical score of ” I HATE LUV STORYS “ in the night. Both the work were going on simultaneously. I am happy that I was privy to all the scores of this film even before the official release.

IMRAN KHAN : He is the only one among all the 5 , who is not my private student. He was in the regular batch and after completing his training left for U S A. I lost touch and years after, when he surfaced in Mumbai and made it big with ” JAANE TU YA JAANE NA ” , I am yet to make contacts with him. He is master of special effects and did many such things in the class. Once I made a remark about his voice and told him that he have to work on it. I have an inkling that he felt bad and resented my remarks. Though he didn’t show his displeasure. His subsequent films – ” LUCK ” and ” KIDNAP ” did not get success at the box office but I think he will touch gold with this film. Though his films as child artiste - ” QAYAMAT SE QAYAMAT TAK ” and  ” JO JEETA WOHI SIKANDER ” were more successful.

” I HATE LUV STORYS ” has been released with much fanfare and is getting all the positive bytes. I am happy at the moment and as I am about to retire for the day, I am going to sleep as a contented man but remembering these famous lines of American poet Robert Frost :.

The woods are lovely dark and deep ,

But I have promises to keep  ,

And miles to go before i sleep   ,

And miles to go before I sleep .
