MUMBAI – MAHARASHTRA – INDIA           AUGUST 31 , 2012           07.30 P.M.

It was July 20 , 1969 . I had passed intermediate from the Government Inter College , Allahabad and then took admission in the University of Allahabad in B. A.

In the morning , I woke up and as per my habit glanced at the newspapers . All the newspapers were full of the photos of Apollo 11 and the minutest details of  the Moon Mission . I saw the pictures of a man standing on the surface of the moon and unfurling American flag . This photo got etched in my memory box permanently . I came to know that this first man on the moon is called Neil Armstrong .

Apollo 11 was the spaceflight which landed first humans on the moon . Neil Armstrong became the first to land on the moon surface and Buzz Aldrin was the second . They stayed for the 2.30 hours on the moon . Third member of the  Moon Mission , Michael Collins remained in the lunar orbit . After 8 days of space mission all the three astronauts safely returned to earth .

Apollo 11 was the 5th manned mission in the Apollo programme of NASA .

It was epoch-making historical event . Never ever we thought that one day in our lives we would be able to witness this kind of moment . A man on moon was an unimaginable and unthinkable event . Neil Armstrong was the first to land on the lunar surface , so naturally he became the hero of our generation .

Born as Neil Alden Armstrong on August 05 , 1930 in Ohio , U.S. , he was an US Navy officer and also served in the Korean War . In 1962 he joined NASA Astronaut Corp .

His first spaceflight was the NASA Gemini 8 mission in 1966, for which he was the command pilot, becoming one of the first U.S. civilians in space. On this mission, he performed the first manned docking of two spacecraft with pilot David Scott.

Armstrong’s second and last spaceflight was as mission commander of the Apollo 11 moon landing in July 1969.

Armstrong was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Richard Nixon along with Collins and Aldrin, the Congressional Space Medal of Honor by President Jimmy Carter in 1978, and the Congressional Gold Medal with his former crewmates in 2009.

Armstrong died in Cincinnati, Ohio, on August 25, 2012, at the age of 82 due to complications from blocked coronary arteries.

With his death a gigantic figure of my growing years is gone forever . It is sad , though inevitable . This ephemeral world is not a perennial abode of anyone . But fading away of my childhood icons one by one is heart – wrenching .

Farewell Mr. Armstrong !

May your last steps on this terra firma be the first step on some other unknown planet .

Rest In Peace gentleman !

Under – 30 Over – Achiever Stars of Hindi Films

MUMBAI – MAHARASHTRA – INDIA           AUGUST 29 , 2012           01.45 A.M.

In the Hindustan Times of August 25 , 2012 , there was an article in HT Cafe section . It is about 8 stars of Hindi cinema , who are currently ruling the box office and yet are below 30 years of age . Their names are ; Ranbir Kapoor , Katrina Kaif , Priyanka Chopra , Imran Khan , Sonam Kapoor , Deepika padukone , Sonakshi Sinha and Anushka Sharma .

It is very heartening to note that out of these 8 stars , 5 are my students and were trained by me during different phases of my career .

RANBIR KAPOOR : ” Saawariya ” to ” Rockstar “

With Ranbir Kapoor before “Saawariya”

I trained him before his debut film ” Saawariya ” [ 2007 ] . I used to go to his Pali Hill bungalow and work with him . I am happy to see his rise to the dizzying heights of super – stardom . I also attended the premier of his first film ” Saawariya “ at the Imax theatre , Wadala in Mumbai .

Cover of

Cover of Saawariya

After 7 years of gap , I again met him at Manali in March 2012 . He had gone there for ” Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani “ , a film being produced by Karan Johar and Dharma Productions . I was also there to train Kalki Koechlin for the same film . Much has been changed since his ” Saawariya “ days . From a confident newcomer , he has now become a super – confident super – star . I was ushered into his room in Manu Allaya , a 5 star hotel in Manali by Kalki Koechlin . I was sceptical . Whether he would recognize me or not ? When Kalki told him about a visitor , he came forward , recognized me immediately and warmly hugged me .

As per trade grapevine he charges INR 8 – 10 crore per film . For ads he charges 1 – 2 crore per ad per day .

His major endorsements are ; Panasonic , Pepsi , Tata Docomo , Nissan , Ronco Leone Shoes , Hero Moto Corp and Lenovo .

KATRINA KAIF : ” Boom ” to ” Ek Tha Tiger ”

With katrina Kaif In Her Apartment

With katrina Kaif In Her Apartment

She is again a rising super star among female artistes . Coming from a non – filmy background and without much knowledge of  Hindi language , she climbed the stairs of stardom and is now the most successful female star of Hindi film industry .

I was called by Yash Raj Films to train her for ” New York ” [ 2009 ] . I worked with her briefly for that film . Later on she again called me for Prakash Jha’s film  ” Raajneeti ” [ 2010 ]  . I worked on her accent . Results are there for everyone to see . She is tremendously hard-working girl .

As per trade analysts , she charges INR 3 – 4 crore per film . For ads she gets 1 – 1.5 per ad per day .

Her major endorsements are ; Barbie , Choc – On , Linc Uniball , Lux , Nakshatra , Olay , Panasonic , Pantene , Slice , Titan , Wrigleys , Yardley and Veet .

PRIYANKA CHOPRA : ” The Hero ” to ” Agneepath ”

Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif are my personal students . I used to go to their houses . But Priyanka Chopra was my student in Mr. Kishore Namit Kapoor’s classes ,  with whom I was working those days .

She joined the class after being crowned Miss World in 2000 . She made her acting debut with Tamil film ” Thamizhan ” [ 2002 ] . Her first Hind film was ” The Hero ” [ 2003 ] . She gained superstardom with ” Andaaz ” [ 2003 ] .

Till date she has got 1 National Award and 4 Filmfare Awards .

As per trade pundits , she charges INR 2 – 3 crores per film . For ads she charges INR 65 – 75 lakh per ad per day .

Her major endorsements are ; Nokia , Dabur , Dabur Amla , Garnier , Samsung , Bru , Nikon , Hero Honda and Asmi .

IMRAN KHAN : ” Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na ” to ” Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu ”

He , also , is not my personal student . He became my student when he joined Kishore Namit Kapoor’s classes .

He made his debut with ” Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na ” [ 2008 ] . His last release was ” Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu ” [ 2012 ] . Though he is only 8 films old , he , among the stars of his age , is considered bankable . Incidentally his heroine Genelia D’Souza in his debut film is also my student .

As per industry grapevine he charges INR 5 – 7 crores per film . For ads he demands INR INR 1 – 1.5 crore per ad per day .

His major endorsements are Levis and Coke .

SONAM KAPOOR : ” Saawariya ” to ” Mausam ”

One day I got a call from Mr. Anil Kapoor . He wanted me to come to his house . I immediately rushed and to my surprise I found that he wanted me to train his daughter , who was making her debut in ” Saawariya ” [ 2007 ] with Ranbir Kapoor . I trained her for the film . She is , contrary to her image , very warm – hearted girl . She is style icon and a philanthropist .

She is only 7 films old , but is considered as one of the rising stars among the girls of her age .

According to trade pundits , she gets INR 50 – 75 lakh per film . For ads she demands INR 25 – 50 lakh per ad per day .

Her major endorsements are ; L’Oreal , Spice Mobile , Mont Blanc , Electrolux , Indian Gems and Jewellery Exibition .

[ So out of these 5 stars , 3 are my personal students and remaining 2 were my students in Mr. Kapoor’s class . ]

DEEPIKA PADUKONE and SONAKSHI SINHA are not my students . So there is not much to write about them .

ANUSHKA SHARMA : “Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi” to “Ladies vs Ricky Bahl”

Batch No. 19 of The Institute

Batch No. 19 of The Institute

Her case is peculiar . She was in the Batch No. 19 of Kreating Charakters . But she constantly refuses to accept this . She says that she is not trained . So let it be . If she does not accept me as her teacher , so I cannot force myself to be her teacher . May God bless her in her journey !

In the photograph you can see her sitting in the front row , [ Extreme Right ]. Second from the left in the front row is Veebha Anand of the ” Balika Badhu ” fame .

Death of  Shri A. K. Hangal on August 26, 2012 at the age of 97 was almost expected . He was aged , frail and was suffering from multiple diseases . On August 16 he was admitted in Asha Parekh Hospital , Santacruz and after 10 days finally succumbed to his injury and other age related complications .

I wrote a blog about him when Hangal Sahab was alive . He hit the headlines for his poor health and penury . Industry people rushed to his succour . But his communist comrades , who are now shedding copious tears after his demise , kept distance and maintained stoic silence .

Investigators from the Los Angeles Police Department’s Harbor Division found contact information and notes to loved ones in his car, which was parked on the bridge, and a suicide note at his office.

I loved Tony Scott’s ” Top Gun ”  but as a connoisseurs of cinema I was more familiar with the cinema of his elder brother Sir Ridley Scott .

Sir Ridley Scott

Sir Ridley Scott

[ Born 30 November 1937 ]

He is an English film director and producer. His best-known films include  Alien (1979) , sci-fi classic Blade Runner (1982) , Thelma & Louise (1991) , best picture Oscar winner Gladiator (2000) , Black Hawk Down (2001) , Matchstick Men (2003) , Kingdom of Heaven (2005) , American Gangster (2007) , Robin Hood (2010) , and Prometheus (2012) .

There are many theories floating about the suicide of Tony Scott . Most prominent theory is that he did not want his family to suffer because of his cancer and subsequent slow death , so he decided to end his life . This theory is vehemently denied by his family .

No one will ever know the true reason behind his suicide . But it is saddening that such a brilliant director decided to end his life in this way .

The Curious Case of Fareed Zakaria

MUMBAI – MAHARASHTRA – INDIA           AUGUST 18, 2012           11.45 P.M.

Last week there were surfeit of news items about Indian – American writer , columnist and TV show host Mr. Fareed Zakaria . I was intrigued and wanted to unearth the real fact . But before I could finish my blog , I just read in today’s papers that he has been exonerated of the charges of plagiarism and has been re – instated by ” Time “ magazine and CNN . I became more curious . If he was not guilty , then why this whole drama about plagiarism was blown out of proportion , which led to his subsequent suspension ? And if he was really guilty of plagiarism , they why has the suspension been revoked today ? In between , ” Washington Post “ , which few days ago fished in the troubled water and accused him of plagiarism , has apologised for wrongly accusing him of plagiarism . It was too much . So naturally Fareed Zakaria’s case became a curious case for me .

I used to admire his father a lot . His father Late Dr. Rafiq Zakaria , a minister in the Congress government of Maharashtra , was a scholar of Islamic history and a great writer of repute . He used to write regularly forThe Illustrated Weekly of India ” , a Times of India periodical being published from Mumbai [ then Bombay ] . I have several old copies of the said magazine in the library of my ancestral house at Deoria . Those copies of ” The Illustrated Weekly of India “ still remind me about the writings of Dr. Rafiq Zakaria . His mother Fatima Zakaria was also a writer and served as the editor of Sunday Times of India .

So curiosity about Fareed Rafiq Zakaria was immense . I refered to Wikipedia and came to know that he was born in Mumbai on January 20 , 1964 . He studied at Yale University and Harvard University in U.S.A. and later on started his immensely successful career in United States of America as a columnist , writer , TV show Anchor and political commentator .

In 1992 he started his career as managing editor of ” Foreign Affairs “ magazine . Later on he moved toNewsweek International ” and wrote a weekly foreign affairs column for the said magazine [ from 2000 to 2010 ] and was its editor too . Later on he became Editor – at – large of ” Time “ [ from 2010 till Present ] .

Apart from these above mentioned reputed magazines , he also wrote for the ” New York Times ” , ” Wall Street Journal ” and ” New Yorker ” .

He also hosts a TV show ” Fareed Zakaria GPS “ on CNN since 2008 . Before that , he anchored shows as political analyst on ABC [ 2002 to 2007 ] and on PBS [ 2005 to 2008 ] .

He is also a very admired and sought after speaker at various world forums . He is considered an authority on America’s political situations and current world affairs .

Fareed Zakaria , apart from his hugely acclaimed columns , has also written 3 books like ; ” From Wealth to Power : The Unusual Origins of America’s World Role ” [ 1998 ] , ” The Future of Freedom ” [ 2003 ] andThe Post American World ” [ 2008 ] .

Cover of

Cover of The Post-American World

Apart from various international and American awards , he has also been awarded Padma Bhushan by the government of India .

A person of this repute cannot easily be accused of plagiarism . But this month he was accused of plagiarism by Newsbusters and was subsequently suspended by ” Time “ and CNN . Newsbusters reported that Fareed Zakaria’s ” Time “ column on gun control [ August 20 , 2012 ] bears similarity to an article published in ” New Yorker “ and that he quoted from the article without giving credit to the original author , Mr. Jill Lepore .

After much hyped furore , Zakaria tendered unconditional apology on his twitter handle @FareedZakaria .

I apologize unreservedly.

And after a week – long investigation ” Time “ and CNN accepted his apology , cleared him and reinstated his column and TV show . A needless controversy ended .

RT @CNNPR CNN Statement on Fareed Zakaria  // RT @TIMEComms Update from TIME on Fareed Zakaria –

I started thinking about the controversy . Was it really plagiarism ? Or Mr. Fareed Zakaria swallowed more than he could chew ? I think the latter explanation is more appropriate .
These days multi – tasking is the order of the day . Mr. Zakaria writes weekly column , writes and hosts a weekly TV show , tweets on the micro – blogging sites like twitter , writes books and is a globe – trotting intellectual , who is much sought after speaker . Naturally he also has only 24 hours at his disposal like lesser mortals . It’s a norm in USA to have assistants , who help busy writers like him and suggest topics , links and source materials . Obviously Mr. Zakaria must have been given the paragraph of Mr. Jill Lepore and inadvertently he mentioned it without giving credit .
According to me he just made a mistake . It was just a lapse . And prudently Mr. Zakaria apologised without hesitation . And a needless and avoidable controversy ended .
[ Some facts of Mr. Fareed Zakaria’s life have been quoted from Wikipedia . I express gratitude .]

New Light on Nehru , Edwina & Partition of India

MUMBAI – MAHARASHTRA – INDIA           AUGUST 16 , 2012           11.55 P.M.
This is not my original blog . I have re-tweeted and re – arranged these tweets from the twitter handle of Mr. Kiran Kumar S. He is a nationalist thinker from Bengaluru and tweets frequently. You can visit his twitter handle @KiranKS or his website for more information about him .

These tweets throw more light on the intriguing and clandestine relationship of Jawahar Lal Nehru and Edwina Mountbatten . Mr. Kiran Kumar S. has extensively quoted from a Kannada book . Name of the book : “Nehru Parade Sariyitu”. Feb 2006; Avani Publishers; By Chakravarthy Sulibele ; No English translation of this book is available yet . People , who know Kannada can refer to the original book for more precise information about this relationship , which overshadowed a very crucial phase of our nation and affected the happenings  during the partition and vivisection of this nation into Indiaand Pakistan . These tweets give you an idea about that fatal attraction .

1) Will tweet some shocking facts about what happened between 1946 and 1950, with focus on #Nehru -From Chakravarthy Sulibele’s Kannada book

2) First & foremost, India (and Pak/BD) did NOT become fully independent on 15 Aug 1947 (Pak 14). Just got “Dominion” status under the Queen

3) After 15 Aug 1947, Raja Gopalachari the Governor General, Nehru the PM & all 3 armed forces were serving the Queen Elizabeth as empress.

4) British India faced a rebellion on 1946 Feb 18, from Indian navy ship Talwar. Soon air force rebelled. Bose’s INA engineered these.

5) British realized in Feb 1946 that they had to leave India. But, their businessmen had invested 1000s of crores in India. Had to take back

6) British needed years to repatriate investment,so wanted a “dominion” India. Congress totally opposed it right from 1929 Lahore convention

7) British wanted – Dominion India for 3-4 yrs; Create Pakistan as reward for Jinnah’s WW2 support; checkmate Gandhi who opposed partition.

8) Per Janelle Morgan’s book, Edwina Mountbatten, page 378, British PM Atlee decided to use the “unusual lady” Edwina to get Dominion India.

9) Reasons British PM Atlee picked Mountbatten couple were-> Spies informed Nehru’s womanizing weakness, Louis M was OK with wife’s affairs.

10) Per Andrew Robert’s Eminent Churchillian book, page 58, Edwina had numerous affairs – Hugh, Bunny, Mike, Larry etc. Husband WAS OK.

11) Edwina was a rich woman. She inherited £20,000 when Louis was making mere £610 in Navy as salary. But Louis was well connected with top.

12) Per Richard Hugh’s Mountbatten book, page 96, Mountbatten couple struck a deal to let Edwina’s sex adventures, without any divorce.

13) 1 month after Feb 1946 INA inspired revolt of Indian Navy, Britain sent Nehru to Singapore to meet Mountbattens. He got royal welcome.

14) Per Sarvepalli Gopal’s J Nehru book part 1, page 710, Mountbatten couple welcomed Nehru in Singapore as tho’ he was a future PM. #Trap

15) Per Stanley Welford’s Nehru book page 361, Edwina ensured with a “fall”, that Nehru was in “love at 1st sight”. Indira was a witness!

16) The effect of Edwina was so quick that Nehru agreed NOT to attend a ceremony in Singapore to honour Azad Hind Fouz’s memorial 😦

17) Per Stanley Wolpert’s Nehru book, page 377, Nehru used to stay in Edwina’s rooms whenever he traveled to London. Hotel Door Chester.

18) Per Collin & Lapiere’s Freedom at Midnight, pg 8, Nehru returned favour by asking for L Mountbatten as India’s Viceroy via Krishna Menon

19) Per Richard Hugh’s Mountbatten book, pg 373, Edwina’s effect made Nehru break 26 Jan 1930’s Congress promise. Agreed to Dominion Status.

20) Collin & Lapierre’s Freedom at Midnight, pg 150: Mountbatten went to London on 18 May 1947. Churchill, Opp leader smiled at trapped Nehru

21) Nehru did NOT take Congress Working Committee’s suggestion bef agreeing to partition & Dominion status. Ignored Maulana Azad, Cong Prez!

22) Millions of Hindus/Sikhs on Pak side & Muslims on India side died. Mega tragedy happened due to Nehru issuing Partition acceptance letter

23) For the outstanding achievement in making India agree to partition & dominion status, Edwina got GBE and Louis, Earl awards/titles!

24) {Final}. Edwina was truly a Vishakanya. She was used cleverly when British understood Nehru’s weakness. Result? Partition & bloodshed 😦
