An Old & Feeble Sadhana ji – A Year Before Her Death

MUMBAI – MAHARASHTRA – INDIA           DECEMBER 31, 2015           10.15 P.M.

On December 25th, 2015, when the world was celebrating Christmas, I read a news and suddenly all around me my world crumbled. I read that SADHANA ji bid adieu to this ephemeral world. My memories took me away from the metropolitan Mumbai of 2015 and ushered me into the dark, humid hall of Amarjyoti Talkies, Deoria. The year was 1965 and the film I went to watch was ” Waqt “, Yash Chopra directed 1st multi-starrer of India. Passing through the pan-strewn gate and boundary walls of Amarjyoti Talkies, I fought a valiant battle to get the ticket and entered the hall.

Film started and drama gripped the audience. As film progressed, SADHANA ji made entry and her entry was greeted with thunderous applause and whistles. In the film she lip-synced famous Asha Bhosle songs like ;

कौन आया कि निगाहों में चमक जाग उठी ……………………..

चेहरे पे ख़ुशी छा जाती है , आँखों में सुरूर आ जाता है ………………………

and

हम जब सिमट के आपकी बाँहों में आ गए …………………..

Her fringe hairstyle, tight Choodidar & Kurta and enchanting smile threw a spell over my adolescent mind. I still vividly remember my first screen encounter with SADHANA ji .

As Christmas 2015 night progressed, I remembered her other famous songs. Even after so many years, they are still mint fresh in my memory. They are ;

Death has snatched her away from me and my memories. But her spell will live with me forever. On the last day of 2015, as the world is busy celebrating advent of 2016, I am sitting in my study in Mumbai and writing this obituary and paying homage to one of the most beautiful actor of my time.

Sadhana Shivdasani

September 2, 1941 – December 25, 2015

Born in 1941, SADHANA ji migrated to India from Karachi during the post-partition riots. Her dad was influenced by cinema. In fact he had named his daughter Sadhana after the famous actress Sadhana Bose. [ Sadhona Bose was an Indian actress and a dancer. She acted in movies like Meenakshi, where she played the lead. A contemporary of Uday Shankar, in the 1930s she staged a number of ballets in Kolkata, including Bhookh on Bengal famine which was a pioneering work in presenting contemporary themes on stage. ]

Sadhana Shivdasani, better known mononymously as Sadhana, was one of the top actresses in the 1960s and the early-1970s. In 1955 she started her career and played a chorus girl in the song “Mud Mud Ke Na Dekh Mud Mud Ke” in Raj Kapoor‘s Shree 420.

When she was 15 years old, she was approached by some producers who had seen her act in a college play. They cast her in India’s first Sindhi language film titled Abaana (1958), where she played the role of Sheila Ramani‘s younger sister. Her remuneration was INR 1.00 , yes, One rupee only.

A photograph of her publicizing the film appeared in a movie magazine Screen. It was then that Sashadhar Mukherjee, one of Hindi cinema’s producer, noticed her. She joined Mukherjee’s acting school along with her debutant co-star and S. Mukherjee’s son Joy Mukherjee . R. K. Nayyar, who had previously worked as assistant director on few films, directed this film. He also created her trademark look, called Sadhana cut, inspired from British actress Audrey Hepburn. The Filmalaya Production banner thus introduced Joy, Sadhana and her iconic hairstyle in their 1960 romantic film Love in Simla. The film was a hit at the box office and was listed in the top 10 films of 1960. Sadhana played the role of a simple, bespectacled girl who is transformed by her grandmother into a beautiful woman and encouraged to pursue the hero. In the film, Sadhana wins a beauty contest and is awarded a three-year film contract with Filmalaya, which was the case in real life too.

In 1966, she married R K Nayyar, director of her first film Love in Simla . SADHANA ji had health issues due to her thyroid, and after the release of Anita [ 1967 ] ,  she got treated in Boston. Sadhana ji – Young & Old

During her last days, she had a beautiful relationship with 3 heroines of yesteryear. She had company of Nanda ji, Waheeda Rehman ji and Helen ji. I am a fan of all the 4 above mentioned Divas of Hindi film industry. It is sad that 2 are now gone. And the remaining 2 are old and feeble. When I saw the below posted photograph, I remembered a song of Waheeda ji’s film ” काग़ज़ के फूल ” .

But this is life…………… It marches ahead………………… With our dear ones………………… and even without our dear ones…………………

It will only stop when our own journey is completed.

So let it be.

Good bye Sadhana ji ! We shall surely meet in another world. Praying for your eternal peace and salvation !!

Obituary :

===============

Aadesh Shrivastava :

—————————–

Aadesh Shrivastava was a music composer and singer . Over the course of his career, he had composed music for over 100 Hindi films. On September 5, 2015 , just a day after he turned 51, he died of cancer in Kokilaben Hospital, Mumbai .

Aadesh ji got his first big break with film ” Kanyadaan “ [ 1993 ] . Among the singers who sang in this movie, there was Lata Mangeshkar who sang his first song – Oh Sajna Dilbar, a duet with Udit Narayan which became popular in radio. But the film and the rest of songs went unnoticed. The same thing happened with ” Jaan e Tamanna “ , but he bounced back with Aao Pyaar Karen ” . One track “Haathon Mein Aa Gaya Jo Kal” was a hit. His other films are ” Salma Pe Dil Aa Gaya ” andShastra “ . The chart buster “Kya Ada Kya Jalwe Tere Paro” from the film ” Shastra “ got him in the limelight once again.

Aadesh ji  sang a number of hit songs such as “Sona sona”, “Shava Shava”, “Gustakhiyaan” and “Gur Nalon Ishq Mitha”. He won accolades for his work in Kunwara ” ” Tarkieb ” andShikari in the year 2000. In 2001, his success continued with the movieBas Itna Sa Khwaab Hai

In 2005, he was a judge on the talent hunt show Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Challenge 2005. He returned to television as a judge on Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Challenge 2009. His semi-classical song Mora Piya from Raajneeti became a hit in 2010 .

Mohan Bhandari :

—————————–

Veteran TV actor Mohan Bhandari died after a long battle with brain tumour on September 24, 2015. He was in his early 60s. He was struggling with the illness for the last few years after suffering brain hemorrhage.

He appeared in several serials including ” Khaandaan ” on DD ” Karz ” , ” Parampara ” , ” Jeevan Mrityu ” , ” Pathjhad ” , ” Gumraah ” and ” Mile Sur Mera Tumhara “.

He was also seen in the Bollywood films like ; ” Bawandar “, ” Pratighaat ” ,  ” Mangal Pandey -The Rising ” & ” Paheli “.

Currently he was working in a serial called “ Tere Shehar Mein “.

 Hemant Bhosle :

—————————

Hemant Bhosle, the music director who succumbed to cancer last month on September 28, 2015 in Scotland, was not only son of legendary Asha Bhosle but also was a talented composer who perhaps did not get enough opportunities to create his own distinctive style. He died at the age of 66.

He had a feel for romantic duets; especially those he composed for Kishore Kumar and Asha Bhosle. The composer worked in several films with Majrooh Sultanpuri , who penned some of his popular tracks.

Two of Hemant’s early films were Eshmayeel Shroff’s ” Agar ” and ” Taxi Taxi ” [ 1977 ] in which Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle had come together to sing ‘Laayee Kahaan Ae Zindagi’. ” Taxi Taxi ” [ 1977 ] and ” Anpadh ” [ 1978 ], did not fare well at the cash counter. ” Damaad ” [ 1978 ] was a minor box-office success. Hemant also gave the score for Anil Sharma’s ” Shraddhanjali ” [ 1981 ] , again a minor success, and ” Bandhan Kuchchey Dhaagon Ka ” [ 1983 ].

Hemant Bhosle had also composed music for Marathi Bhavgeet “Sharad Sundar ” and ” Yeu Kashi Priya “ , all of which his mother had sung.
It is very sad that his sister Varsha Bhosle also died young at the age of 56 in 2012.

Remembering Krishna Kalle

img_8024

MUMBAI – MAHARASHTRA – INDIA           MARCH 30, 2015           06.20 P.M.

1

Let me admit that to most of the readers of my blog , the name Krishna Kalle means nothing . Her name doesn’t ring a familiar sound . To general public also , Krishna Kalle remains almost unknown. But for few people like me , who grew in the 60s , Krishna Kalle was a known name in the Hindi film music world. Her name does ring a familiar sound for the music buffs. So when I read about her death, I was saddened. She went unwept and unsung.

She died on March 15, 2015 at the age of 74 in Mumbai.

In the era of Lata Mangeshkar , she , along with Suman Kalyanpur , Mubarak Begam , Kamal Barot and Sharda tried hard to be in the limelight. All the above mentioned five playback singers , who were good in their own way , failed to make any significant mark in the era of a colossus known as Lata Mangeshkar. When even a giant like Asha Bhosle was also struggling to make her mark, what would anyone expect from the likes of Krishna Kalle , Suman Kalyanpur , Mubarak Begam , Kamal Barot and Sharda ?

For me Krishna Kalle is synonymous with few hit songs of 60s and early 70s. Meri Hasraton Ki Duniya  , her duet with Mohammad Rafi in a film called  ” Gaal Gulabi Nain Sharabi ” [ 1974 ]   and Hume Toh Maar Diya  , a duet with Mahendra Kapoor from the film ” Hum Kahan Ja Rahe Hain ” [ 1966 ] are still fresh in my memory. For the connoisseurs of old Hindi film songs, these are unforgettable gems. Other famous films of that era , which have her memorable songs ,  are : Hum Kahan Ja Rahe Hain  [ 1966 ] , Bambai Raat Ki Bahon Mein [ 1967 ] , Raaz [ 1967 ] , Naunihal [ 1967 ] , Shikar [ 1968 ] , Sati Sulochana [ 1969 ] and Gaal Gulabi Nain Sharabi  [ 1974 ]

She was born in Karwar. As her father were serving at Kanpur, she completed her schooling from there . She got the sanskar of Hindi and Urdu over there. At the age of 16, she started singing at Kanpur Radio Station. She sung in various Yatra singeet mahotsav in Uttar Pradesh and got popularity. In 1957, she was honoured with national level youth singing awards by India’s first president Rajendra Prasad and first prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru. The following year, she bagged the All India Sugam Sangeet Award first prize , K.L. Sehgal Memorial’s Golden Voice Award and many others. And after this she got a job with All India Radio in 1960.

Arun Date first heard her voice, when she visited Mumbai . He introduced her to music director Yashwant Dev. This started her journey as Marathi singer.

She was active in the Hindi film industry for about a decade from 1960s to the 1970s. She sang over 200 Bollywood songs, 100 Marathi movie songs, 100 bhajans, ghazals and devotional songs . She also released non-film albums with famous singers like Manna Dey, Mohammed Rafi.

Krishna Kalle has been named for the ‘Lata Mangeshkar Award for Lifetime Achievement’ instituted by the Maharashtra government. Some other personalities who bagged the ‘Lata Mangeshkar Award for Lifetime Achievement’ include : Manna Dey, Anil Biswas, Sudhir Phadke, Khayyam, Mahendra Kapoor, Suman Kalyanpur, Sulochana Chavan, Kalyanji (Shah), Manik Verma and Hridaynath Mangeshkar. Thus getting the above mentioned prestigious award shows her calibre as an artiste.

After her death, I tried to remember other hit songs of Krishna Kalle , apart from above mentioned two ,  but my memory failed me. Suddenly I found a website, where link of some of the songs are given . URL of the website is :

https://www.lyricsbogie.com/singer/krishna-kalle

Here I am posting links of some of her songs from that website :

Songs Sung by Krishna Kalle

It is sad that today’s generation doesn’t know or remember Krishna Kalle. It is very easy for any upstart to write what Shabana Azmi says about Dilip Kumar and post it on his timeline . They both are legends. everyone knows everything about them . But knowing and writing about a lesser known artiste like Krishna Kalle is the job of a fan , a lover of old film songs and a connoisseur. For people like me she was one of the representatives of the golden era of Hindi film music.

Farewell madam !! Accept this tribute from an ardent fan .

Sunset Boulevard ( 8 ) : ” Lakshmi Talkies : अपना सिनेमा हाल था ये “

img_8024

MUMBAI – MAHARASHTRA – INDIA           MARCH 17 , 2014           11.40 P.M.

Today when the Hindus , all over the world , are celebrating Holi and rejoicing in festivity , I am sitting in my study in Mumbai and writing this blog about Lakshmi Talkies , Allahabad with tearful eyes . I am struggling for words . I am unable to form sentences . I am full of emotions . Lakshmi Talkies will not ring a familiar bell for several anonymous people or the lovers of cinema . May be some will be familiar of some Lakshmi Talkies of their own cities . But here I am talking about Lakshmi Talkies of Allahabad , Uttar Pradesh .

Few days back I saw the following post on the facebook time line of Shri Neeraj Sri :

अपना सिनेमा हाल था ये …
Lakshmi Talkies - Katara - Allahabad

Lakshmi Talkies – Katara – Allahabad

When I read the post and saw the photograph , I became numb . I was stunned . I was shaken . I was saddened beyond words . I was emotionally disturbed . I spent a sleepless night .

Even now as I am writing the blog , my heart refuses to believe that this is a reality . I was a regular patron of Lakshmi Talkies during my Ganga Nath Jha hostel days . Lakshmi Talkies of Allahabad was a part of my life . Lakshmi Talkies holds a special place for me because Lakshmi Talkies was an integral part of my Allahabad University days . It’s magnificent structure is still fresh in my memory . So when I saw the above picture of a desolate Lakshmi Talkies with moth – eaten walls , broken window panes and barbed wire fencing , I wanted to cry . I wanted to mourn .

I , after passing High School , left my birth place Deoria in 1967 and went to Allahabad for higher studies . Deoria had two cinema halls at that time but being in a small city like Deoria , they were not grand or magnificent , like cinema halls of bigger cities . Allahabad was much bigger city compared to Deoria , so the cinema halls were also huge and opulent . I landed in Allahabad in July 1967 with glitter in my eyes , hope and dreams in my heart for my better future . I , as a 15-year-old small town boy , was fascinated by Allahabad , the city and its atmosphere . Slowly I started getting acquainted with the city of Allahabad . Being a movie buff , I started looking about cinema halls and thus came to know about Lakshmi Talkies at Katara . Lakshmi Talkies management had this strategy of re – releasing old Hindi films . So for me this was a boon because I could now watch all the old classics which I had missed in Deoria .

” Door Ki Awaaz ”  [ 1964 ] , a film directed and produced by Devendra Goel was the first ever film which I watched in Lakshmi Talkies . The Joy Mukherjee , Saira Banu , Pran , Johny Walker and Om Prakash starrer film has some popular Mohammad Rafi gems like , “Ek Musafir Ko Duniya Men Kya Chahiye ……………………….” , ” Husn Se Chand Bhi Sharmaya Hai , Teri Soorat Ne Ghazab Dhaya Hai ……………..” , ” Muqaddar Aazmana Chahta Hoon , Tujhe Apna Banan Chahta Hoon ……………………………. “ , and a lovely duet of Mohammad Rafi with Asha Bhosle ” Haathon Men Haath Hothon Pe Afsane Pyar Ke ……………………” , and the last but not the least , a song sung by Mohammad Rafi , Manna Dey and Asha Bhosle ” Hum Bhi Agar Bachche Hote Nam Hamara Hota Gabloo , Babloo , Khane Ko Milte Laddoo , Aur Duniya Kehti …………….. Happy Birthday To You …………………” . All these lovely songs were tuned by music director Ravi .

The film , the songs and the whole movie going experience is still fresh in my memory even after 47 long , strife – torn and eventful years of my life .

The last film I watched in Lakshmi Talkies was in 1971 . It was a Hemant Kumar produced and Asit Sen directed ” Khamoshi ” [ 1969 ] . During the same year they also opened a skating ring in the western side of the compound . It was a new experience .

I completed graduation in 1971 and left Allahabad and came to Bombay [ now Mumbai ] . One year after I left Mumbai again and came to Allahabad to complete my post graduation . So I was in Allahabad and staying in the same Ganga Nath Jha Hostel again from 1972 to 1974 before finally bidding adieu to Allahabad in 1975 . During this period I did watch couple of films in Lakshmi talkies but I don’t remember them .

But I do remember a concert of Pandit Ravi Shankar with Alla Rakha Khan , which I was fortunate enough to attend . One evening my friend Pramod Vajpayee came running and informed me about the concert . It was in aid of some NGO . So the ticket rates were low . We went , bought the tickets and took our seat in the packed hall . That evening is still fresh in my memory . It was a life – time experience .

And now 40 years later in March 2014 , I read this posting about the closure of Lakshmi Talkies on the facebook time line of Shri Neeraj Sri and the world of my emotional memory crumbled at one go . A part of my life is gone forever . A silent witness of my many lonely evenings is going to be silent very soon .

Shamshad Begum : छोड़ बाबुल का घर, आज पी के नगर, मोहे जाना पड़ा

MUMBAI – MAHARASHTRA – INDIA           APRIL 30 , 2013           07.00 P.M.

Shamshad Begum

April 14, 1919 – April 23, 2013

Shamshad Begum was one of the first playback singers in the Hindi film industry. She had sung over 6000 songs in Hindi , Bengali, Marathi, Gujarati, Tamil and Punjabi languages. Her songs from the 1940s to the early 1970s remain popular and continue to be remixed.

Young Shamshad Begum

Young Shamshad Begum

Shamshad Begum died this month on April 23 , 2013 at the age of 94 and I am forced to write 7th obituary in continuation in the month of April . Shamshad Begum , along with Noor Jahan and Amirbai Karnataki , dominated the pre-Lata Mangeshkar era in Indian playback singing .

Among female playback singers , She was blessed with a distinct voice with slight nasal twang and any lover of Hindi film music can immediately recognize her voice .

Since I was born and brought up in the Lata Mangeshkar era , I was not a fan of Shamshad Begum’s voice initially. But slowly , as my understanding grew , I started appreciating her voice .

The first song of hers , which caught my fancy , was ” Pee Ke Ghar Aaj Pyari Dulhaniya Chali ” . ThisMother India ” [ 1957 ] song was immensely popular . Other songs of the same film ; ” Holi Ayee Re Kanhayi Rang Chhalke Suna De Zara Bansuri ” and ” Gadiwale Gadi Dheere Haank Re “ are also hit even today . Then I watched Mughal – E – Azam ” [ 1960] and its immortal qawwali is still fresh in my mind . ” Teri Mehfil Me Qismat Azma Ke Hum Bhi Dekhenge “ is a connoisseur’s delight . Then I watched ” Aan ” [ 1952 ] and I was permanently hooked to Shamshad Begum’s voice . All her popular songs , like ; ” Aag Lagi Tan Man Me Dil Ko Pada Thamna , Ram Jaane Kab Hoga Saiyyan Ji Ka Samna ” and ” Khelo Rang Hamare Sang Aaj Din Rang Rangeela Aaya “ are still my favourites . But ” C. I. D. ” [ 1956 ] was another revelation . ” Le Ke Pehla Pehla Pyaar , Bhar Ke Aankhon Me Khumar ” and ” Kahin Pe Nigahen Kahin Pe Nishana , Jeene Do Zalim Banao Na Deewana “ are just immortal . It is surprising that I heard her most popular song very late in my life . ” Mere Piya Gaye Rangoon Kiya Hai Wahan Se Telefoon , Tumhari Yaad Satati Hai “ . This song from ” Patanga ” [ 1949 ] is unforgettable and its several re-mixed versions are still extremely popular . ” Naya Daur ” [ 1957 ] film’s ” Reshmi Salwar Kurta Jaali Ka “ was a craze of its time . Her last hit  ” Kajra Mohabbatwala Ankhiyon Me Aisa Dala “  from ” Kismat ” [ 1969 ] is one of the songs which was re-mixed again & again .

Shamshad Begum’s career was somewhat eclipsed with the advent of Lata Mangeshkar . She sang her first duet ” Dar Na Mohabbat Kar Le “ with Lata Mangeshkar in ” Andaz ” [ 1949 ] and her last duet with Lata Mangeshkar was ” Teri Mehfil Me Qismat Azma Kar Hum Bhi Dekhenge “ from ” Mughal – E – Azam ” [ 1960 ] . Within these 13 years Shamshad Begum’s career went downhill and after giving her last hit ” Kajra Mohabbatwala “ in 1969 , she bid adieu to playback singing .

Shamshad Begum’s fans often allege that her career suffered because of the monopolistic politics of Lata Mangeshkar . I beg to differ . Shamshad Begum played her innings and retired gracefully . Her career suffered because of the changing times and changing taste of film-goers . Talat Memood’s career went downhill with the advent of Mohammad Rafi . Even mighty Mohammed Rafi , towards the end of his career , was confined in his home for many years without recording a single song and Kishore Kumar ruled that era . In the field of art such things happen .

Her distinct style , her nasal twang and her strong voice , which was her forte in the earlier years of her career , became her nemesis towards the end . It is not for nothing that towards the fag-end of her career , her voice was used for vamps and her last hit ” Kajra Mohabbatwala “ in ” Kismat ” [ 1969 ] was filmed on Vishwajeet , who was masquerading as woman in the said film .

On behalf of all the students and staff of VIDUR Acting Institute , which is known as  Vidur’s Kreating Charakters  , I offer my condolences to the family of the iconic singer . Self-proclaimed most famous acting school of Mumbai , self-anointed most famous acting institute of India and self-appointed most famous acting academy of bollywood has no time for such courtesy .

Shamshad Begum

Shamshad Begum

May her soul rest in peace ! Her ephemeral body is gone but her perennial voice , the temple bell , will live on forever .

60 Years of Film ” Aandhiyan “

2

MUMBAI – MAHARASHTRA – INDIA           DECEMBER 12 , 2012           11.58 P.M.

Dev Anand‘s film ” Aandhiyan “ stands at the 10th position in the list of hit Hindi films of 1952 . I have written about 6 films of 1952 in a row . This , my 7th blog , is about ” Aandhiyan ” . I am unable to write about remaining 3 films ; ” Maa ” , ” Nagina ” and ” Bewafa “ as I have not watched them and there are almost no information available about those films on internet .

Dev Anand stablished his banner Navketan in 1950 with a film called ” Afsar ” , starring himself and Suraiya . Guru Dutt directed ” Baazi “ in 1951 was the second Navketan film and then came ” Aandhiyan “ in 1952 . This film was directed by Chetan Anand and it starred Dev Anand , his future wife Kalpana Kartik , Nimmi , K. N. Singh , Johny Walker , Durga Khote and Leela Mishra . Film’s story was written by Dev Anand himself .

Narendra Sharma’s lyrics were tuned by Ustad Ali Akbar Khan . Hemant Kumar and Asha Bhosle‘s duet ” Wo Chand Nahin Hai Dil Hai Kisi Deewane Ka ………….. “ was the most popular song of ” Aandhiyan ” . Asha Bhosle’s ” Dard Bant Raha Hai Kise Dard Chahiye …………………… “ is another hit . Lata Mangeshkar‘s ” Hai Kahin Pe Shadmani …………………….. “ was also very popular .

After massive hit ” Jaal ” , this was Dev Anand’s second hit of 1952 and thus he could consolidate his position at the box office as a formidable star and fortified position of his banner in Hindi film industry .

Another ” Andhiyan “ was made by David Dhawan in 1990 and it starred Shatrughan Sinha with Mumtaz . This was the come back film of Mumtaz and it bombed at the box office .

In my acting institute of Mumbai , I have decided to introduce my students to this fantastic world of Hindi films . They should know about the history – making films of India . It will be now a regular feature of the curriculum of Vidur’s Kreating Charakters .

With this blog about ” Aandhiyan ” , I am ending my ” Down The Memory Lane ” category blogs . In the last month of 2013 , I will again return with the hit films of 1953 .

60 Years of Film ” Sangdil ”

2

MUMBAI – MAHARASHTRA – INDIA           DECEMBER 11 , 2012           11.50 P.M.

In the list of hit films of 1952 , Sangdil stands at the 7th position . I have already written about 5 films . They are ; ” Aan ” , ” Baiju Bawra ” , ” Jaal ” , ” Daag ” andAnhonee ” . I am unable to remember anything about ” Maa ” , the 6th hit film of 1952 . So I have to skip it . ” Sangdil “ stands at 7th .

This Dilip Kumar and Madhubala starrer was way ahead of its time .

” Sangdil ”  was directed by R. C. Talwar . The film is an adaptation of the Charlotte Brontë classic Jane Eyre. The film stars Dilip Kumar, Madhubala, Dara Singh and Leela Chitnis. This film is Dara Singh’s debut film .

This film has lyrics by Rajender Krishen . It’s music is by Sajjad Hussain.

Talat Mehmood‘s ” Ye Hawa Ye Raat Ye Chandni , Teri Ik Ada Pe Nisar Hai …………….. “ is still popular among the lovers of old Hindi film songs . ” Kahan Ho Kahan Ho Mere Jeevan Sahare , Tumhen Dil Pukare ……………….. “ is another gem by Talat Mehmood . During the earlier days of Dilip Kumar and before Mohammad Rafi became his regular voice , Talat Mehmood was his voice .

” Dharti Se Door , Gore Baadlon Ke Paar , Aaja Aaja Basalen Naya Sansaar …………….. “ is another gem by Asha Bhosle and Geeta Dutt . This movie also has a Lata Mangeshkar gem ” Wo To Chale Gaye Ae Dil …………………… ” .

After ” Aan ” and ” Daag ” , this film ” Sangdil “ was 3rd consecutive hit of Dilip Kumar in 1952 and thus riding on the wave of 3 super hit films , he reached the dizzying heights of super – stardom , which lasted almost 50 years . Dev Anand followed him with 2 hits in 1952 ; ” Jaal ” and ” Aandhiyan “ and Raj Kapoor also with 2 hits ; ” Anhonee ” and ” Bewafa  . It is not for nothing that this triumvirate of Dilip Kumar , Dev Anand and Raj Kapoor ruled the Hindi film industry for uninterrupted 50 years .

There is one more point for the common public and connoisseurs alike . Lata Mangeshkar is the sole common factor of all the hits and super hits of 1952 . Male and female stars changed . Directors also changed the seats . Music directors and lyricists got replaced . Male singers are not there in every film . But Lata Mangeshkar gave hit after hit in every film , for every heroine and for every music director .
