Big budget films like ;  Agneepath ” , ” Houseful 2 “ and  Rowdy Rathore  earned mega bucks and entered in the prestigious 100 crore club . Small budget films like ;  ” Ishaqzaade ” , ” Kahaani ” , ” Vicky Donor ” , ” Paan Singh TomarandGangs of Wasseypur won praise and made money also . ” Ishaqzaade ”  marks entry of a fresh face Arjun Kapoor , who is making waves . ” Gangs Of Wasseypur “ heralds emergence of new Hindi cinema .

As usual , re – posting some of the relevant tweets of eminent trade analysts Mr. Komal Nahta and Mr. Taran Adarsh :

Tweets

Straight B-L-O-C-K-B-U-S-T-E-R! That’s what Rowdy Rathore is!! Next 100-crore film? All chances!

RR 1st day 15 crore; 2nd day 14.5 crore; 3rd day 18.5 crore. Total weekend: an astounding 48 crore!

@enter10meAnt Shanghai opens to poor houses. Too Class-appealing, too Confusing, hence not Commercial. Losing venture

Dull opening for Shanghai. Multiplexes around 15-30%. Single-screen cinemas terribly low. Sad!

Opening of Ferrari on lower side. In premium multiplexes, opening is fair

Ferrari Ki Sawaari 1st day about 2.9 to 3 crore. Today should be better than Friday

TMK 1st day: a little over 5 crore. GOW: around 2.75 crore. Both openings below the mark

#Shanghai [Week 2]: Fri 75 lacs, Sat 1 cr, Sun 1.25 cr, Mon 35 lacs, Tue 25 lacs. Total: 21.10 cr nett. Disappointing!

#RowdyRathore opening is fantabulous at single screens, plexes are good, should be great by noon/evening. Trends indicate Rs 15 cr Friday.

#RowdyRathore is @akshaykumar ‘s #Dabangg. His biggest opener!

#RowdyRathore *India* Fri 15.10 cr nett. Biggest non-holiday Friday opener. O-U-T-S-T-A-N-D-I-N-

#RowdyRathore is the third biggest opener ever, after #Agneepath and #Bodyguard. Incidentally, all three films are remakes

#RowdyRathore has biggest non-holiday weekend, collects Rs 48.5 cr + nett http://bit.ly/Mb3dpw

#RowdyRathore has smashed previous records by a big margin. Collects a colossal Rs 48.3 cr + nett in its first 3 days… contd.

#RowdyRathore biz is *better* than this year’s first Blockbuster #Agneepath, if one compares Friday to Sunday numbers… contd.

#RowdyRathore Breakup:- Fri 15.1 cr, Sat 14.7 cr, Sun 18.5 cr +. Total: Rs 48.5 cr + nett. Biggest non-holiday weekend. Fantabulous

#Ishaqzaade Week 4 – Rs 1.46 cr. Total: Rs 47.19 cr nett. Fantastic!

#RowdyRathore smashed previous records in many circuits. Has performed exceptionally well at single screens and plexes… contd

Update: #Shanghai opens to dull response http://bit.ly/Ls3u92

#RowdyRathore has crossed Rs 100 cr nett mark at the end of Weekend 2. Has performed exceptionally well at single screens as well as plexes.

#RowdyRathore joins the Rs 100 crore club: @taran_adarsh on IBN Live http://bit.ly/KyN1KM

#Shanghai started slow, but showed decent growth at hi-end multiplexes on Sat and Sun. However, the overall business is below the mark.

#RowdyRathore is unstoppable. Remains first choice of moviegoers. Collected a humungous Rs 35 cr nett in Week 2. Total: Rs 114.5 cr nett.

Update: #FerrariKiSawaari is decent at select screens, reports positive, should grow over the weekend http://bit.ly/rCkwLY

#RowdyRathore [Week 3]: Fri 2.25 cr, Sat 2.90 cr, Sun 4.50 cr, Mon 1.75 cr, Tue 1.70 cr. Total: 127.6 cr nett. Blockbuster.

#FerrariKiSawaari [Week 1]: Fri 3.04 cr, Sat 4.50 cr, Sun 6.37 cr, Mon 1.75 cr, Tue 1.60 cr. Total: 17.26 cr nett. Steady at plexe

#Shanghai [Week 2]: Fri 75 lacs, Sat 1 cr, Sun 1.25 cr, Mon 35 lacs, Tue 25 lacs. Total: 21.10 cr nett. Disappointing!

Update: Both #TeriMeriKahaani and #GOW are showing an upward trend. At some places, #GOW is leading, at some #TeriMeriKahaani.

#FerrariKiSawaari fared the best in Mumbai-Maharashtra belt and Delhi. Collected Rs 20.96 cr nett in Week 1. Satisfactory numbers!

#RowdyRathore emerges the fourth highest grosser in India, after #3Idiots, #Bodyguard and #Dabangg.

B. K. Karanjia : A Priceless Pen Put To Rest

MUMBAI – MAHARASHTRA – INDIA           JUNE 29 , 2012           01.15 A.M.

Another icon of my youth faded into oblivion last week . One more titan of my growing years now ceases to exist . A priceless , mighty pen is put to rest .

Renowned film journalist and former chairman of the National Films Development Corporation [ NFDC ] , Burjor K. Karanjia , popularly known as ‘BK’ ,  passed away at the Jehangir hospital , Pune at 1.15 pm on June 22 , 2012 . He was 92 years old at the time of his death .

He is survived by two daughters ; Routton and Delshad  and a son Yuzud.

From Mumbai , Karanjia had moved to Pune in 2007 . He was staying in a flat at Sopan Baug . He had suffered a hip fracture in 2010 and had undergone a surgery and recovered miraculously.

He was a loner and would prefer to read a lot .

The Karanjia family moved to India from Quetta , Balochistan , Pakistan after Partition . He had named his south Mumbai residence as ” Quetta Terrace ” , which stood a short distance away from the historic Jinnah House.

Karanjia’s elder brother , Russy K. Karanjia , also a well-known journalist , had died five years ago .

Karanjia had qualified for the Indian Civil Services . However , he chose to pursue entertainment and film journalism , while Russy pursued investigative journalism .  After doing stints as a reporter , he went on to become the editor of  ” Filmfare ” , ” Screen ” , ” Cine Voice ” and ” Movie Times ” .

Karanjia was the founder of the Films Financing Corporation . He later became chairman of the NFDC and set a precedent to finance low-budget movies for new and talented filmmakers .

B. K. Karanjia authored several books on the entertainment industry.

I used to admire his style of writing in Filmfare . I became a regular subscriber of Filmfare only because of him . In my younger days he became synonymous with Filmfare . It is sad that he is no more .
I mourn his demise deeply .
