Death of a Blogger in Bangla Desh

MUMBAI – MAHARASHTRA – INDIA           FEBRUARY24 , 2013           11.00 P.M.

Indian subcontinent seems to be in turmoil these days . Pakistan is perennially unstable and is always on the brink and now Bangla Desh also seems to be stirred and shaken . The latest target in both the countries are social networking activists .

Barely few months back in October 2012 , Malala Yousafzai of Pakistan was shot in the head by the Talibans . Now she is out of the hospital but still faces the threat . She is an avid blogger and posts her thoughts regularly . Her crime was that she wanted to pursue studies and was voicing her views through her blog .

And now the news come from Bangla Desh . A blogger , Ahmed Rajib Haider , is hacked to death allegedly by Jamaat – E – Islami fundamentalists . His only fault is that he is also a blogger and through his blogs he was raising voice against rising fangs of Islamic fundamentalism in secular Bangla Desh . His another crime according to jamaat – E – Islami clerics is that he proclaimed through his blog that he is an atheist . Majority of Bangladeshis think that hacking of Ahmed Rajib Haider is the handiwork of Jamaat – Shibir , the youth wing of the Jamaat – E – Islami .

Bangla Desh is in turmoil since long . People are up in arms for the justice of the victims of 1971 Liberation War .What is now known as Shahbagh demonstration , almost 500 people gathered on February 05 , 2013 to protest against the life sentence to Jamaat leader and accuse of 1971 war criminal Abdul Qader Mollah . They were demanding death sentence for Mollah . In Bangla Desh it is widely and universally believed that Jamaat actively helped Pakistan army during the 1971 war of independence .

February 05 , 2013 Shahbagh Demonstration was organised through facebook and other social media . Youngsters who were apolitical earlier , are now actively participating in demonstrations and voicing their views . Social networking sites have given them an easy tool in hand . Clamour for punishing Jamaat for their alleged crime during 1971 war of independence are growing . So naturally Jamaat , to save their skin , is trying to term these activists as anti – Islamic and atheists .

So they first attacked a blogger Asif Mohiuddin . He was stabbed but he survived . Now Haider becomes the second victim of attack and he died .

It is very unfortunate . If Jamaat is found guilty by courts for the crimes during war of independence , they should accept the verdict and face the consequences . But they are trying to save their skin by muzzling voices of dissent . Hacking people to death will not help them now . Social networking sites are here to stay and they have become an easy and convenient tools in the hands of young dreamers . They wont be silent now . Forces like Jamaat – E – Islami should understand this . Otherwise very soon they will be extinct .

I think , as a conscientious citizen , it is my duty to ponder and comment on the happenings of the world . I also try to inculcate these feelings in the students of my acting academy  Vidur’s Kreating Charakters . Like some others , I cannot think just about my next batch and proclaim from my housetop that mine is the best acting academy of India , best acting institute of Mumbai or the best acting class of bollywood. My acting students should be world citizens and they should think about the happenings of the world .

A Moment for Malala Yousafzai

MUMBAI – MAHARASHTRA – INDIA           OCTOBER 15 , 2012           00.50 A.M.

I know some Acting Trainers of Mumbai or Acting Trainers of India must be puzzled to hear the name of Malala Yousafzai . They are totally oblivious of her existence . Almost all the owners of Acting Schools of India only think about the next batch and their constant thought is centered around the number of new admissions . Barring a microscopic minority , no Bollywood Acting Trainer thinks about the country or spares a moment to ponder about our neighbouring countries .

According to me this is unholy . One may be the owner of the Most Famous Acting School of Mumbai , but he or she can’t be oblivious of the happenings of the world .  But it depends on the individual . Morons are in majority .

I think that whether I would be able to form my next batch or not , whether I am called an Acting Tutor , who is unworthy of becoming an Acting Trainer , whether Vidur’s Kreating Charakter is successful or failure , it is my pious duty to follow the happenings of my country and the world and to spare some moment for these things .

So naturally I was aghast by the dastardly act of shooting a 14-year-old girl Malala Yousafzai by the Talibans . To make my readers aware of the incident , I am posting tweets of  Iranian activist Saloumeh Z :

Malala, 14 year old shot by a Taliban coward, has been speaking out on behalf of girls banned from education by Taliban.

A Taliban coward sneaked into Malala’s schoolbus and shot her in front of other children for calling for girls’ rights.

Malala’s crime? She called for Pakistani girls to have the right to go to school. #TalibanCoward

Taliban claim credit for their Satanic act of violence against Malala. They are proud of their evil.

Taliban means the student . And it is bizarre that students of Islamic studies are trying to prevent girls from getting educated . Malala Yousafzai is a 14 years old activist for the education of girls of Pakistan . She is a blogger also . She is running a campaign for the education of girl child in the Swat valley of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province of Pakistan .

Born in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa of Pakistan on July 12 , 1997 , she is a ninth grade student . 3 years back , Malala came into prominence when she blogged about promoting education for girl child in Swat Valley . She never hesitated to make her views public against the Talibans , who had banned girl education in Swat Valley after taking full control of the district .

For her activities she won International Children’s Peace Prize also .

She was shot in the head by a Taliban activist , while she was returning from the school by bus . Since then she is lying unconscious in a hospital in Peshawar and her condition is still critical .

Undaunted , Chief Spokesperson of Taliban , Ehsanullah Khan took the responsibility for this dastardly act . He has gumption to say that if she survives , they will shoot her again . Flag of Taliban bears the Islamic Aayat , ” La Ilah illallah , Mohammadurasoolillah ” [ There is one Allah and Mohammad is his prophet . ] But they , apart from this apparent slogan , don’t follow any tenets of Islam .

World rose in disgust against this heinous crime . World leaders condemned the barbaric act . intelligentsia is indignant . Girls of Pakistan are openly proclaiming support for Malala Yousafzai . Thinking people of India are unanimously condemning this heinous crime .

Though I am insignificant spec in the scheme of the things , I am also voicing my protest . I unequivocally condemn Talibans and their religious bigotry . In our busy life let us spare a moment for this brave 14-year-old girl , who is fighting for her life for no fault of her own .

May ALL MERCIFUL , ALL BENEVOLENT bless you my child !

Egypt : The Harbinger of Change in Arab World

EVENING…………………………………………….7.55 P.M.

I hate the word Current Affaires. What is happening in this world is not just current affaires. It is definitely something very serious. Whatever has happened is history . So whatever is happening today, is history-in-the-making. That is the reason, I have named this category : History-In-Making and not current affairs.

I was curiously and very anxiously following the happenings in Egypt. I am a student of history and thus was familiar with the ancient history of Egypt. I was always fascinated by the Pyramids, the Sphinx. I have read about the pre-historic Egypt. I know about the Roman Egypt and the Ottoman Egypt. I had childhood memories of Egypt’s ruler Gamal Abdel Nasser, who overthrew the monarchy and stablished democracy. King Farouk was overthrown in a bloodless coup and Mohammad Naguib took as the first Prime Minister of Egypt. Nasser was the real architect of this change. Later on he deposed Mohammad Naguib and took as the second Prime Minister of the ancient nation. Along with Jawahar Lal Nehru and Yugoslavia’s Josip Broz Tito , he was instrumental in forming the Non-Alignment Movement. When he died in 1970, his funeral was attended by 5 million people. Such was his popularity and such was his stature and standing in the world arena.

After Nasser , Anwar El Sadat became the ruler of Egypt. His tenure was marked for his historic visit to Israel and eventually Egypt’s recognition of the Jewish state. By a gentle stoke of his pen, he ended centuries old hostility and animosity. No student of world history will ever forget those momentous days of the President of Egypt’s state visit to Israel and the eventual recognition of the Jewish state by an Arab nation.

President Anwar Sadat of Egypt

Anwar El Sadat was disliked by Muslim Brotherhood people for this and he was fiercely opposed by the orthodox muslims. Sadat was ultimately gunned down by an orthodox muslim group, while  inspecting a military parade. Hosni Mubarak succeeded him and ruled for a close 30 years. I have no memory of pre-Nasser period but from the rule of Nasser to Sadat to Hosni Mubarak, I was a close follower.

Suddenly one day there was an innocuous news about Tunisia , a tiny state in Africa continent. Zine al-Abidine Ben Ali , the despotic ruler of Tunisia, was forced to leave the country by unarmed protesting mobs.

”]Zine El Abidine Ben Ali, President of Tunisia ...

This incident triggered protests in Egypt on January 25, 2011 and suddenly my twitter timeline was flooded with the news of Egypt and her unarmed protesting masses at Tahrir Square. Despite best efforts of Mubarak government , protests refused to be petered out and finally after almost a fortnight and after several procrastinations , Hosni Mubarak resigned and a military council took over. Mubarak is set to be in coma and his whereabouts are not known.

It will always be remembered as a watershed movement. Trigger point of this massive campaign was initiated by Wael Ghonim, a google executive , whose anti-terror Facebook page helped spark the movement. Hosni Mubarak’s departure is creating ripples in the entire Arab world and protests are erupting in Iran, Yemen, Bahrain, Libya, Jordan and Saudi Arabia. Rulers are announcing sops and reforms suo-moto. Word’s first Facebook and Twitter revolution is about to create a far-reaching impact in the entire Middle East.

I wish and pray that Egypt should remain secular and democratic and should not fall in the hands of Muslim Brotherhood. She should not be allowed to become another Afghanistan and Talibanization of Egypt is not desired and it will not be good for the larger muslim interests.
