Rastra Dharma Rakshak : A Denunciation

MUMBAI – MAHARASHTRA – INDIA           JUNE 17 , 2013           00.30 A.M.

“I do not agree with what you have to say, but I’ll defend to the death your right to say it .”  – Voltaire

I was closely following the political turmoil which gripped BJP after its Goa National executive Committee meet . I was particularly peeved when some disgruntled youth protested in front of Advaniji’s house in New Delhi . The banners they used informed us that they belonged to a little known organization called Modi Sena .

One can draw the inference that officially BJP or Shri Narendra Modi has nothing to do with it . But I remember one more protest of the same nature against Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee . When there was a rebellion against Shri Keshu Bhai Patel , Atalji went to Gandhi Nagar to broker peace . Keshu Bhai Patel was removed and Suresh Mehta was anointed as Chief Minister of Gujarat . There were protests against Atalji . When he was heading for airport , his car was gheraoed by few slogan shouting youth . At that time also protesters shouted obscene slogans against him . At that time also we were informed that they were some disgruntled youth and they don’t belong to the party . And we believed .

But some disgruntled youth again appeared and shouted slogans against Advaniji . Coincidence can’t happen again and again . Who is responsible for this act . How come few disgruntled youth appear on the scene when something happens which is not liked by someone . And yes , they have audacity to protest against Atalji and Advaniji and that too with impunity .

Apart from the protesting disgruntled youth , there is one organization called Rastra Dharma Rakshak also in the arena . If you write or say anything against a leader which is not liked by them , they will hurl abuses and post extremely obscene comments on facebook . You can visit their facebook page to get first hand knowledge :

I am curious to know about the Rastra Dharma Rakshak and Shri Dhiraj Desmukh , who seems to be heading this organization . They proclaim to admire Shri Anna Hazare , Baba Ramdev and Shri Narendra Modi . But in order to admire above mentioned great personalities , you need not ridicule or insult the other ones .

Previously they used to post obscene comments and insulting  pictures of Shri Manmohan Singh and Shrimati Sonia Gandhi . In democracy you can oppose any person or leader and even criticize them . But it should be done in a decent , civilized way . To Photoshop any leader’s photo and then posting it on social networking sites is unethical .

Their bent of  mind is puzzling . Is it necessary to support everyone whom they support ? Are we duty bound to acquiesce to their dictates ? If it is so , is it good for democracy ? Or it is democracy at all ?

If Advaniji says that he is not well , so he is not well . If he doesn’t want to go to a particular meet , it is his choice . He doesn’t need Rastra Dharma Rakshak’s nod for that or their permission to skip the meet . Any one wanting to know their bent of mind can send them friend request on facebook and see what they write . It is filthy . It is vulgar . It is uncouth . It is demeaning to even reproduce those postings here .

Yesterday the man to be abused was Shri Lal Krishan Advani . Today the goal-post has changed . It is now turn of Shri Nitish Kumar . I also wish that in the interest of the nation BJP and JD ( U ) should work together . But if  JD ( U ) wants to break the relationship , it is their choice . But all of a sudden according to Rastra Dharma Rakshak , Nitish Kumar is supposed to be getting money from Pakistan . May I demand to know  why was it not reported earlier ?

In politics it is your right to criticise . But to rebuke , ridicule or insult is neither your right or your prerogative .

I denounce Rastra Dharma Rakshak . They have no place in democracy . Their autocratic behaviour poses dangerous signal . I do respect Shri Anna Hazare , Shri Narendra Modi and Baba Ramdev . But I won’t allow myself to be forced to like or admire them . In fact years ago , when the embers of Gujarat riots were still hot and burning , I wrote two blog post in support of Shri Narendra Modi . Anyone can visit the Political Category of my blog post and can read the blogs .

1 – In Defence of Narendra Modi : March 24 , 2010

2 – Narendra Modi & His Detractors : December 20 , 2012

There was another post which I wrote when Kokrajhar riots happened :

1 – Kokrajhat & Tyranny of Distance : September 06 , 2012

But I refused to be dictated by Rastra Dharma Rakshak and its patron Shri Dhiraj Desmukh . To admire Shri Narendra Modi , I need not be ridiculing Shri Advaniji . As I have written in the beginning :

“I do not agree with what you have to say, but I’ll defend to the death your right to say it .”  – Voltaire

If it is right of Rastra Dharma Rakshakt to admire someone , then it applies to me also . They cannot dictate terms or force me into subjugation . I may be small . I may be alone . I may be in minority but I still have the mind of my own which refuses to be cowed down by a Rastra Dharma Rakshak . I finish my blog by remembering a poem written by Dr. Dharam Vir Bharti .

On behalf of all the students and staff of VIDUR Acting Institute , which is known as Vidur’s Kreating Charakters  , and on behalf of VIDUR Editing Studio , VIDUR Club and VIDUR Theatre I express my voice in favour of personal freedom and against dictatorial tendency of few uncouth , sycophant paper tigers . They proclaim to be admirers of few great souls whom even I admire but not  the way they wish me to admire them .

Narendra Modi & His Detractors

MUMBAI – MAHARASHTRA – INDIA           DECEMBER 20, 2012           08.00 P.M.

I believe in democracy and thus I firmly believe in the saying of Voltaire , which I have given below :

“I do not agree with what you have to say, but I’ll defend to the death your right to say it .”  – Voltaire

Then what to do with false , abusive and malicious campaign . Here I admire the way Shri Narendra Modi deals with his detractors . He concentrates on his work and ignores the acerbic spleen of his nay – sayers .

He once famously said, ” A successful man is one who can lay a firm foundation with the bricks others have thrown at him. “

It explains the enigma of Narendra Modi . Today he has won the third consecutive term in Gujarat . He is condemned , vilified and demonized since Godhra riots . But continuously winning election in 2002 , 2007 and now in 2012 and that too decisively and single – handedly , is by no means an unimportant achievement .

Districts of Gujarat

Gujarat has now become synonymous with Shri Narendra Modi . He now represents the province completely . But it took many years of agony – filled existence . It took many painful nights and colourless mornings . But today public gave the verdict and its for all to see . Now it is a permanent death-nail in the coffins of his detractors .

I think that people are the final judges and they give decisive verdicts . Public can never be ambiguous . They can never be wrong . Though sometimes they do take longer time to decide .

Today as I write this blog and simultaneously reading the tweets about Gujarat election , I am convinced that Modi detractors have bitten dust and they have eggs on their despicable faces . Nay – sayers will never be silenced but after the verdict of 2012 , no one will believe them any more .

I told acting students of my acting class  Vidur’s Kreating Charakters , that in this film line they will get more detractors than fans or friends . And here they should always be careful who they call their friends . It’s always better to have 4 quarters than 100 pennies . They should not feel humiliated or disheartened by the acts of their detractors .They should always wait for public verdict .

In such cases public verdict comes and it comes pretty soon .

Christopher Hitchens : Death of An Atheist

Christopher Hitchens

Christopher Hitchens

MUMBAI – MAHARASHTRA – INDIA           DECEMBER 23 , 2011           01.30 A.M.

Christopher Hitchens , writer , columnist , journalist , public speaker , world-famous atheist and iconoclast died on December 15, 2011 at the age of 62 in Houston , Texas , USA .

I am a theist . I am a believer . I do believe in God . I do believe in  my culture , my traditions ,  rituals of my religion and have unflinching faith in above mentioned things .

But still I admire and have utmost regards for every iconoclast , every atheist and every non – believer .

During my childhood days , I read a lot about Charvaka , an atheist of yore , who was a non – believer .  Standing on the staircase of the temples , he used to criticize God and exhort and urged the people not to believe in God , while believers were going for Darshanam . No one hurt him . No one ever criticized him . He was not banished from the city by the king of the day . He was not persecuted for his iconoclastic views . Instead he was called Maharshi Charvaka by people and was revered . He was called an atheist philosopher and was given place in the pantheon of Indian Godhead . His works were not banned by the government of the day . People in India , who know Sanskrit , still remember his famous Shloka , which preached his atheistic and hedonistic views :

यावत्  जीवेत्  सुखम्  जीवेत् ; ऋणं कृत्वा घृतम पिवेत ;
भस्मी भूतस्य देहस्य ; पुनरागमनं  कुतः  ॥

[ As long as you are alive , live with opulence and pleasure . Even if you have to take loan , lead a life of fulfillment and luxury . after death , when your ephemeral body will be burnt , you wont return in this world . So the question of re – payment doesn’t arise . ]

Maharshi Charvaka fascinated me . So whenever I read about a new atheist , a new iconoclast , I am driven towards him , even though I would never follow him .

So  when I heard about Christopher Hitchens , I was intrigued . Most famous for bashing Mother Teresa as a fraud , he was very critical of Henry Kissinger , Bill and Hillary Clinton and Royal Family of Great Britain . Christopher Hitchens was admirer of George Orwell , Thomas Paine and Thomas Jefferson .

Though my behaviour would seem to be incoherent but I firmly believe in the saying of Voltaire :

” I disapprove of what you say ; but I will defend to the death your right to say it . “
I follow theism but I will always admire atheists , because you need guts to not believe in God and swim against the tide . Only Christopher Hitchens could have written ” God Is Not Great ” . You need courage to write this kind of book . Only he would have said this for Mother Teresa : ” She was not a friend of the poor .She was a friend of poverty .She said that suffering was a gift from God .She spent her life opposing the only known cure for poverty , which is the empowerment of women and the emancipation of them from a livestock version of compulsory reproduction .”

It needs guts to support Salman Rushdie and oppose Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini . It needs courage to oppose Vietnam War but support Iraq War . It needs gumption to oppose Bill Clinton but support George W. Bush . He was a true iconoclast who regularly contributed in Vanity Fair magazine .

I deeply mourn his death and pray for his soul , though he would not have liked it .

May his soul rest in peace !

Amen !!

I know  your views Mr. Christopher Hitchens . You have every right to adhere to your views but so am I .

So , rest in peace gentleman ! And don’t get angry for my prayers .

Immortality at Madame Tussauds

MUMBAI – MAHARASHTRA – INDIA         NOVEMBER 03 , 2011           10.40 P.M

Last week as I was scrolling through my Twitter timeline , www.twitter.com/VidurChaturvedi    ,I got the news that Kareena Kapoor‘s wax statue was unveiled at Madame Tussauds Wax Studio , Blackpool . Before Kareena Kapoor ,  Hritik Roshan‘s wax statue was also unveiled at the Madame Tussauds studio . It is a rare honour. Till today only six Hindi film artistes have been immortalized at Madame Tussauds . They are Amitabh Bachchan , Aishwarya Rai , Shah Rukh Khan , Salman Khan , Hritik Roshan and now Kareena Kapoor . Out of these 06 dignitaries , last 02 are my students .

Tussaud was a French national . Her mother worked as a housekeeper for Dr. Philippe Curtius in Switzerland , who skilled in wax modelling. Tussaud learnt art of making wax statues from Dr. Philippe Curtius . She made her first wax statue in 1777. Voltaire was the first person to be immortalized in wax . Rousseau and Benjamin Franklin were other famous people , who followed Voltaire. She went to London in 1802 and could not return to France because of the Franco – British War . Finally in 1835 she settled down in Baker Street , London and opened a museum , now known as Madame Tussauds Wax Museum.

In that very museum Kareena Kapoor and Hritik Roshana‘s wax statues were unveiled . Destiny some times plays very strange games . In 2000 , Hritik Roshan and Kareena Kapoor were signed to play romantic leads in ” Kaho Naa…………..Pyaar Hai ” . I was assigned to train them for the movie . But destiny willed otherwise. While training was going on , another announcement about another new – comer star – son was made .The film in question was ” Refugee “ and the debutant was Abhishek Bachchan . Kareena was very keen to do ” Refugee “ . Since she could not debut in two movies simultaneously , she opted for ” Refugee “ . Though she was under contract but sensing her eagerness to do ” Refugee  ” , Mr. Rakesh Roshan freed her and signed Amisha Patel for ” Kaho Naa ………. Pyaar Hai  “ . Film was released on January 14 , 2000 and created history . ” Refugee “ was also released same year on June 30 , 2000 .

Hritik Roshan and Kareena Kapoor were not destined to debut together . Though , later on , they did a couple of films together but barring ” Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham “ they could not give memorable films. But , destiny brought them together again and this time in wax avatar . What various film – maker could not achieve , Madama Tussauds studio accomplished and now these two hottest box office stars of Hindi cinema are perennially paired together in wax.

I am happy for them . They are my students and when they are being honoured in such manner , I am thrilled . I am too small a man to dream of being ever at Madame Tussauds . But I feel my presence at Madame Tussauds through the wax statues of Kareena Kapoor and Hritik Roshan .

And the fact of the matter is that it is just the beginning of their journey and they have many more miles to go .
